I think the point was mainly phone-related use. The OP was looking for a speed dial list; the scroll wheel -- with the control display in phone mode -- offers a selection of recent calls that might serve this need.

Thank you for that edification. I had thought you were responding to MOTODAVEO's contribution (#20 above) which appeared to me to address the question of a phone speed dial list. I must have misunderstood, something that happens from time to time.
