2015 Bmw 535i Check Engine Light PLEASE HELP!!!

Hey guys I have a 2015 Bmw 535i with the M sport package fully loaded. Yesterday I took it to the gas station (SHELL) and filled it up all the way (USED PREMIUM 91).as I was coming back home everything and everything felt fine and sounded fine. After parking in my driveway for a few hours I got in to go somewhere and as I started it the check engine light when on and I quickly turned it off to see if there were any visual problems. Opened the hood, no leaks fluids and oil were all the way up and everything looked fine. Now, I was shocked and confused since it only has 13,000 thousand miles on it . Went back started the car drove it around, did a few hard pulls and everything sounded fine and felt fine. Please help me on why this could be. I'm thinking it has something to do with the fuel and gas components. Maybe didn't tighten the cap? I don't know please help. have a nice day

Aren't you under warranty?? Just take it in let the dealer do their job.

My first thought was the gas cap as well.

Since it happened shortly after filing up, most likely gas cap. Just make sure you tighten it well (again) and it'll go away soon. Sometimes though it doesn't, so, dealer will have to reset it for you.

Even if it clears on it's own, they'll be able to see it it next time you bring the car in for service. They are always looking at all the faulty codes thrown between visits.

To ease your mind, the MIL (check engine light) is only related to pollution control issues. So, continuing to operate your car will do no harm while the MIL is illuminated. Most likely, you did not tighten the fuel cap properly. It may take a few engine on/off cycles to clear the MIL after the triggering cause has been corrected.

So, in the future, don't be alarmed by a MIL and continuing using the car as you normally would. The only harm is to the pocket book (after warranty expires, of course) and the fact you get annoyed (we all do). But, since it is a pollution control issue, get it fixed ASAP (for the environment).

A cheap code reader from your FLAP will tell you what caused the MIL.

Good luck.
