Daytime Running Lights
I have the DTR lights option ticked on the idrive settings menu, but the lights don't come on when the light knob is in the 0 position, which is what should happen according to the manual. Can anyone shed any light on this issue?...no pun intended.

Funny thing... I noticed that the rear lights comes on too, at night, along with the DRL (or is this part of the "welcome" light?) can't remember if the car was running or in acc mode. Many features overlap so it's hard to tell which is activated individually or along with other. Don't have the time to test nowadays... too busy. |

DRL is powered by LED and the headlight is powered by bi-xenon. That's why when you 1st turn on the headlight, its kinda white color but slowly it will turn into yellowish again.

not sure when my car was built (think it was Nov/Dec 2010) but I tested this today and found the desired setup I wanted for winter driving as follows (i have the visibility pack):
- ignition off - turn headlight master switch to "A" - in i-drive toggle "daytime running lights" to ON i.e check the box with this combination I get the following behaviour: - daylight driving, angel eye's, rear lights on. - lowlight conditions or driving through tunnel/under flyover or M'way bridge, low beams activate. Low beams deactivate once back into daylight - night time conditions, low beams automatically on this behaviour is exactly what I wanted....seems to contradict what i'd read in other threads so not sure if the s/w on the headlight modules has been changed or if the light sensor is set differently on recent builds but for me it works how i expected it work with these settings. |

If you have the standard Halogen lights (UK) then the only way to get Angel Eyes on in isolation is to set your lights to 'side lights'. If you're expecting Angel Eyes only with DRL ticked and lights set to Auto then you're going to be disappointed (as I was), as this also illuminates dipped beam.

Alan48 makes a good point, I should have clarified in the UK the visibility pack basically = Xenon's, high beam assist, adaptive headlights and headlamp wash. but its not a standard pack in the UK its extra.
so it sounds like the behaviour is different depending on lights you have and/or maybe the build date which i guess could affect things like software versions on the light modules/controllers. |

Currently, If the light switch is in position 0, i.e off and DRL's are selected, I get NO lights. This is different to what the manual states.
Can anyone confirm this is correct, as the dealer does not seem to know. Thanks |

you got xenon or halogen? seems to be differences in way two work. xenon's on mine and i get DRL (angel eyes) if DRL on in i-drive and switch set to "A". will check later what happens if switch is "0"

This was the problem with my car. The light won't switch on "0" position when the DLR option is ticked on idrive. According to the manual, it should switch on. I've taken the car to the dealer. They had the car for a day and finally said they have send my software to HQ and is awaiting advice from them. This was over a month ago. Still no reply

It would be logical to carry this trend on to the F10 series!!.

Little old topic, many of you may have discovered the UK story on DRL.
I had my car to 2 dealerships in Scotland and both had it in the analyser to check the lights. Nothing was wrong on DRL or anything to do with lights. Conclusion is; If you have Xenon you will have the Angel Eyes (rings) on as your DRL. But if you have the standard Halogen (like me) you won't get only the angel eyes on, but you will have the dipped headlights on as well. I was told this is because the Xenons are powerful than the Halogens and it's why they worked like that :|

I'm sure the owner manual in iDrive tells me that Halogen lights means DRL = dipped.
If you want to preserve your bulbs, twizzle the switch to side lights.
