Don't even think that many are running Dinan. Just about everyone that has a tune is on BMS.

From what I have seen, there is not much difference between a $2,000 Dinan piggyback tune and a $379 Burger Stage 1 piggyback tune on a 535i. Now, if you believe what Dinan says, it would seem like a bigger difference but most dyno results I have seen say different. If someone has other evidence, please share.

I've got Dinan Stage 2 and enjoy it. Is it overpriced? Of course. I had to have the warranty though. My car is not Xdrive and I ran 12.7 at 112 with a 2.1 60ft on worn runflats. I just got Michelin Super Sports and plan to go back to the track in a couple weeks. I'm betting I can get 12.4 with a better launch.

If my car was out of warranty, I'd pick BMS. Much better value.

How much rougher/harder does the engine run/idle after the tune? Of course it varies and I read all kinds of stuff from various tunes but that's the biggest thing that's holding me back. I still want it to drive 'mostly' like a stock car if possible.
I see you're in Houston- who did your flash?

I bought the Dinan D-tronics tune, and I like it. Warranty was an important consideration for me. Also, there is no need to uninstall it before going for service, or an emission test. The engine does not idle or run rough at all. Power delivery is very smooth. There is just more of it. Especially in "sport" and "sport+". The install takes an hour or two, and I have had zero issues with check engine lights or anything else..
My car is a DD, and I don't race it or track it. The extra power/torque is very nice around town and on the highway. That said, I didn't really think the 535 was underpowered as stock. I bought it to increase the "fun factor" of driving the car, and would do it again.

I kinda wish I could put the actual box on my car but for the 550 you could still flash up to 2013 models. I really want to drive or at least ride in one just to see the difference. The smoothness and clean power delivery you noted is my biggest concern about any mod.

No change at all. Driving around town feels as composed and smooth as stock. The power delivery is linear just like the stock 550i, just way more power. I got the tune at BMW north Houston. It's a modification that I would do again in a heartbeat.

Sweet, thanks for the input. Have you had any issues with overheating/going into limp mode? I've read that after about 10-15 mins of heavy driving it'll default into L.M. til it cools off some with just the stock intercoolers.

Dinan Upgrades

I recently had the Dinan Stage 3 engine tuning software installed on my 550i, and it's turned my car into a beast! From 3K RPM onward, it's a completely different vehicle by way of a tremendous (and linear) surge of power and acceleration.

Had the engine software upgraded in October shortly after the installation of Dinan's performance exhaust, and have had no issues whatsoever with increased idle roughness nor trouble lights. Got the Dinan spring set / supplemental ride quality & handling kit / EDC software reprogramed (Dinan's "shockware") last week, and again, am loving the transformation of my F10 at each step of the process. So much so, that I ordered up their low compliance rear control arms yesterday to further tighten up the rear suspension (I upgraded to 20" wheels, and in combination with the extra power, it can get a little squirrely at the ass end with the OEM rubber bushings when I aggressively toe into the accelerator).

Are there more cost-effective options than Dinan out there? Absolutely. However, I have no regrets over any of their performance upgrades, and would do each and every one of them once again in a heartbeat if need be. Their customer service has been awesome, and it became very clear when I began my research into their product line that they engineer and test the sh*t out of their innovations (all in-house) before releasing to market. Plus, they stand behind their product 100% with their warranty, and the fact that BMW corporate has endorsed their tuning capabilities (with a nationwide distribution network on showroom floors) meant a lot to me.

I get that their stuff may not be for everybody, and that there doesn't seem to be too many folks on this forum touting the Dinan line of performance products. Thus, I offer my two cents and hope it helps others contemplating aftermarket upgrades and researching vendors for their F10 mods.

Let's not forget the original poster was asking about a 535i not a 550i. I think there is probably a world of difference and better bang for the buck on a 550i vs. 535i. If I had a 550i, I would definitely do Dinan. With my 535i, it doesn't seem worth almost 4 times as much for Dinan vs. BMS IMHO.

True, but all we 550 owners are just thirsty for input from anyone doing any mods to their cars at all lol.

Did it improve MPG if you were driving it economically (cruising) lets say?

Are their any other ECU "flash" tunes that are proven to put out any significant HP/TRQ increases for sub $1K? Not feeling the Dinan Tune for $2K on my 535i.
