Adieu but with a heavy heart

It will soon be time to bid adieu to my beloved F07 5-Series GT

To date, It has been the most phenomenal BMW model I have owned - and I have owned 5ers, 1ers, 6ers.

Yes, it polarised BMW super-fans, and most motoring journalists, and the trade but for those among us who are unafraid to 'be the trend' and not wait for the reassurance of conformity, this car was an incredible concept: Outstanding levels of luxury and detailing, that was then extended to the rest of the model range over 4 years; a wonderful ride and handling especially on long motorway cruising runs, and phenomenal space and versatility that delights. Many of my friends were surprised by the pace and acceleration and the levels of comfort. I actually didn't mind the way it looked either!

So at 4 years and the longest I've ever kept a car, I will be sorry to see it go. I had the option of getting the new LCI refresh but it was time for a change.

So, especially for my GT-driving friends in England, if you see me smile at you as you drive past; know that I know what an incredible machine (and one of BMW's most under-rated models) the 5-GT is.

Here's to all of you!!!

Sad to see you go, but glad to see you realized what a marvel the GT is.

More unique than an X6, same interior (and roominess) of a 7er, and the performance and handling of a 550 (w/ better steering).

Good luck with your future purchase. Maybe we will see you back on the GT side soon.

Thanks Dinan. I couldn't agree more with your comment.
Everyone I encouraged to take a test drive loved it.
Think the 3GT is going to make the GT platform more accessible and appealing.

For the moment, just wanted a change so expecting my 640d Gran Coupe M Sport in a couple of weeks.

The new LCI version of the GT (especially in M Sport version) has really helped balance out the proportions and looks, liked it a lot with the optional LED headlamps now also available and the further improvements to interior trim. This is a fantastic car and much maligned for its posh taxi utilitarian image.

Many more around as the second hand market is warming up and it's a cracking deal for £25,000 that it takes for a 3 year old example nor 25k miles.

Still lurking about these forums occasionally.

More 5GTs around in the UK as many come into the used market at more affordable prices, and I have seen a few new - mostly in Alpine White M Sport - where it looks stunning when clean! The new Modern/ Luxury/ Sport lines have made the car more interesting and varied.

Any new cars up here? Pictures!

The front 3/4 view and side profile is absolutely stunning!
The new X4 oddly enough looks more like the 5GT than the X6!

Absolutely loved my time with the car - kept it the longest i ever have had a car: all off 4 years!

Totally understand your sentiments. I remember you from the early days. I took delivery of my first GT in December 2009, one of the 1st to do so. Ordered sight unseen. Unfortunately GT #1 had a couple of issues @ 700 miles on the odo and was replaced with GT #2 which after about 2 years I sold for an F12, etc .

The GT is still one of my all time favorites. The luxury, the utility the value and yes the aesthetics too. Thanks to Scott at DINAN I was also one of the 1st with an ECU tune. 500hp/580 lb-ft. Ultimate sleeper

I would actually consider another GT. That being said I am not sure the next gen has been green lighted for the U.S. Shame if not, especially considering the 3er GT continues on... Simply put that model can't hold a stick to the F07

My kids love our new 6GC but every time we pass a 5GT we do miss fondly the amazing packaging of luxury, space, versatility and cruising ability.

Thanks for the new picture. Love the LCI Msport version a lot.
Not very keen on the 3GT though it is sportier, and more inexpensive, so gets the concept to more family drivers.
