M5 Mufflers with a 550 M Performance Diffuser?

Thinking of picking up a set of M5 mufflers but I want to run the 550 M performance diffuser with it, not an M5 diffuser. Can that work? Or will the exhaust outlets be too far off for a muffler shop to get it to work. This would be installed on a 535i M Sport. Thanks.

I've heard you have to adjust and move the 550 tips for the M5 diffuser, I'm guessing same for them switched.

Yes I believe the M5 exhaust outlets are more towards the center of the car, and the 535/550 are situated further apart (outboard). I am not 100% sure I will get M5 mufflers, but I definitely want to do quad outlets with a 550 M Performance diffuser.

I just replaced my OEM 2012 550i exhaust with a full 2013 M5 exhaust (from the downpipes back). I had to use the OEM M5 diffuser to fit the tips in.

Minor mods are made to the m5 mufflers to fit the m sport diffuser. Any decent exhaust shop can do it. Had it done yesterday.

Can you post some pics from underneath so I can see how much they had to offset the outlets so the tips would line up with an M-Sport or BMW Performance diffuser.

I just completed adding a 2013 F10 M5 exhaust and diffuser to my 2012 F10 550i. It was fairly easy, but done in a series of steps.

Video/Audio clips of cold start: http://youtu.be/RBF-1PaP7NM

I bought the exhaust and diffuser from a member of another forum locally in San Diego.

The M5 exhaust works on the 550i with no modifications necessary. The muffle shop needed make a coupler/"enlarger" from my downpipe (smaller) to the exhaust (larger). The added one hanger attachment point to the exhaust to use the factory 550i hangers.

The diffuser fits as-is, though I have not dealt with the comfort access bracket. I have to grab one from BMW.

Lastly, I had the diffuser painted Jet Black to match the car.

I have zero drone at any speed, the rumble is solid but not too excessive (my neighbors don't complain when I leave for work at 7:00 a.m.), and yet above 3000 RPM it sounds like a proper car.

Sounds great congrats!

I think what more of us are interested in is m5 mufflers fitted to oem 550i m sport diffuser....

Exactly! I like the M5 diffuser, but don't really want my car to look too much like an M5. I was thinking of going with the 550 BMW Performance diffuser to fit the quad outlets (I have a 535) with the M5 exhaust.

Sounds great! Did you replace from the cats back, or just mufflers? Your description sounds like it is the former but I want to confirm. Thanks!

Here are pictures of the M5 exhaust and the OEM 550i diffuser. The first picture is the drivers side and the second is the passenger's side. The inboard tip on both side is more than half covered by the 550i diffuser. I hope this helps.

I replaced from the cats back. Here's what I took off of my car and I replaced it with the same configuration from the M5.

I will post some pics on the underneath soon and rear soon. I will be adding the M5 downpipes this week so will likely consolidate the entire write up once that is complete.

Again I did not install the M5 diffuser and used the stock M sport diffuser, and had the exhaust company do the mods to the mufflers to accommodate the spacing change requirement. It cost me $180 for install and the mods.

M5 mufflers are a winner for me as it has the performance sound with out being too aggressive.

Did you reuse or disable the vacuum valve for the exhaust flap? Thanks

I reused it. No changes necessary to connect vacuum valve.

Is that how you left it? I can't imagine leaving it like that, which is why i think the only acceptable (to me) solution is the M5 diffuser.

Airjoe... CloudVIII used his OEM M sport diffuser by moving the exhaust hanger position on the M mufflers and doing some fab work.

Can't wait for pics, but if he said it works and looks good, I don't doubt it.

I just may be doing the same but need his pics/writeup first.
