And so it begins. It's up and out of commission for next 2 weeks to get the following finally done during my free time in between work and family.
Working backwards and up:
Picking up another set of jack stands this evening - can't be too careful under the car. Love working on cars, but hate being underneath them. Update: WTH. Nothing is made with quality any more. Every jack stand I found yesterday wouldn't give me the confidence to go under the car for even a second. Since I also realized that I need to raise the car much, much higher, decided to bite the bullet and invest in high quality ones. Ordered 4 ESCO 3 ton/each stands and BMW jack point adapters. Damn expensive, but other BMW owners swear by them and if it buys me peace of mind while under the car, so be it (you can sense by now I have anxiety being underneath the car, lol).

Lemforders. They're OE without the BMW logo and half the price from FCP. Would have loved to go with some poly bushings, but couldn't find an easy way to press out/in.

Did an oil change and checked the oil catch can. Honestly, these catch cans are pointless on the N55. It was about half full of just rusty water, maybe a slight skimming of oil. As many have said, the N55 PCV system is plenty even for a stage 2 tune (unsure if this remains true when you go bigger turbo).
That said, don't get those cheapo amazon catch cans, as I have learned. The paint job on the inside likes to fuck off and sit in the can. Won't get into the engine thanks to that bronze filter, but it's still terrible to see. Those two silver tabs and the silver bit surrounding the filter used to be painted black. The mishimoto cans are expensive because they use paint that is properly rated for this kind of application. I have a feeling the cheapo ones just use straight rattlecan grade paint.

THANK YOU!!! I haven't taken the time to install the CC I bought last year; now I don't have to! At least I didn't spend that much on it. |

If anything, it hurts the system. Most catch cans use 1/2" inlets, but the OEM piping is 3/4". Even if the can uses 3/4" barbs, I've noticed almost all still use 1/2" inlets. So you're increasing the amount of time positive pressure is built in the crankcase due to the restriction. Some might argue that it's good to catch that water in the can rather than let it into the engine again, but come on it's water. Water is a natural by product of combustion lol

KW v3's fully installed and aligned. If anyone is looking for a solid alignment/suspension place in North Jersey, hit up Ivans Alignments in Cliffside Park. Upgraded to these from Silvers neomax. Gotta say, for how much more expensive KW's are, Silvers definitely has the better height adjustment mechanism. Maybe it's necessary due to the progressive springs, but adjusting preload to adjust ride height is basically a massive guessing game. The KW's are definitely more compliant, but you get a bit more boat feeling back compared to the linear springs on the Silvers. If you live in a spot with good roads, it's a bit hard to justify the KW's 2.5x increase in cost.
Also, catch can after 80 miles on a really humid day. It's definitely more of a water catch can than an oil catch can. I've since swapped back into the stock CCV system. Also it looks like there's something growing in the can?! No idea what that nasty brown stuff is.
