Question regarding wheels & off-spec tyres
Guys,
I am awaiting my order of my brand new F11 LCI. But I have a set of wheels and tyres from my E91 LCI. So the specs are: Front : 18x8.5J ET 35, 225/40/18 Rear : 18x9.5J ET 40, 255/35/18 Now, first things first, will the wheels even fit? Forgetting the tyres. If they do fit, what are the issues I might come across running these tyres? I know the profile should be at least 5 higher all round (225/45/18, and in fact should probably be closer to 245/45/18) for example, but I was hoping I could use them as winter wheels, and I have a pair of 225/40/18 winters I could put on them, so I would only need to source winters for the back, if they (the front tyres) would work. Is it possible? Or would I be better off just punting them on, and getting proper spec wheels/tyres? |

Yes, the wheels themself will fit (assuming it's not a 550i you're getting with some big brakes). The tires are pretty small since it should be 24
5/45/18.

Cool. So I COULD get away with them until my front winters run out then. Just buy appropriate sized rears (which would, I guess, be 265/40/18's).

OEM rear staggered size is 275/40/18, but 265/40 is close enough.
But I guess very few winters comes in 265/40/18 or 275/40/18 size, so you could do 245/45/18 both front and rear. The rear will have a some stretch. I've just put on 245/40/19 winters on my 351M wheels, and they're 8.5" and 9" wide. See post #74: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthre...=861814&page=4

Excellent. I will probably do that then. 245/45/18 all round.
Car is a 530d by the way, so the brakes shouldn't be too big. Doubt they will be bigger than my 335d's anyway, and these wheels were fine on there. Had a little play about with the wheel calculator over on the wheel & tyre section on the E90 site, and on both front and rear, it looks like all the wheels have 2mm less clearance on the inside. I'm guessing this should be fine, 2mm isn't too much. But the rears will stick out 10mm further. This should then sit flusher with the Arch, which I am quite happy about. The fronts will come in 2mm though, which aint so great. Where would be the best place (UK preferably, but EU would be fine too, or Norway if they happen to be the only thing in Norway that's cheap. I work in Norway). And I'm guessing something like 7-10 mm would be fine? Is there any particular make to go for? |

The 530d brakes isn't bigger than the 335d brakes so that shouldn't be a problem, and inside clearence is no problem either.

Excellent.
However, just after writing that, I got a pretty decent offer on the 3SDM's, so might as well take it, and invest in proper F10 winter wheels anyway. Hopefully. Assuming I can source a set reasonably enough. |

You mean OEM f10 wheels when you say proper f10 winter wheels?

Lol. Yeah that's what I mean. Like 327's or 328's (237's seem to be pretty rare). The wheels the dealers usually sell as part of their "winter wheel and trye" packages.
