TPMS Retro fit?
I didn't order (more actually realise it didn't have it) the TPMS on my new F10. Can you just by the valves and code, or is there other hardware needed to make it all work?

It is more complicated, you'll need the control box too and the wiring need to be installed. I was told the total cost is in the 4k range. i made the same ordering error and haven't been able to find a proper retrofit yet. the 4k quote is based on a rough guestimate by my local BMW dealer :S

A little confused by this now
So, just looked at the new brochure, the car comes with run flats and a Tyre Pressure Warning System (driver is warned via a light in the cockpit)......but there is a £255 option for Tyre Pressure Monitoring........I assume this is the on screen stuff? So, my question is, can the TPWS be coded into the TPMS Anyone know? Last edited by Beancounter_74; 10-17-2013 at 11:32 AM.. |

The free one is based on the wheel rotation speed, from the ESP. That is a software feature, no additional hardware added, therefore there is no extra cost. However, it won't be able to tell you the reading of the air pressure or temperature of the tyre.
The TPMS has the ability to tell you the air pressure of each tyre and their current temperature, there are additional hardware involves, hence the additional cost. I remember there are aftermarket solution from 3M? But not a part of iDrive display though, also not sure if that works with RFT. |

Ah, I understand now, many thanks.
To be honest, I can live with just the basic version. I first thought the car didn't come with anything which I thought strange, given the nature of RFT's. Last edited by Beancounter_74; 10-17-2013 at 09:54 PM.. |

What I don't really understand, is when I asked for the winter alloys and tyres, they quoted me different prices between the sets with and without the TPMS. I have never seen any tyre advertised with compatibility info to TPMS, nor the special alloy wheels required for the TPMS. I guess the parts department must have told me something completely unnecessary.
