New software programing on car makes steering track better?
I took in my 2013 535i in the other morning for the first oil change and to have the auto/start stop function disabled until reactivated. After getting the vehicle back the first thing I noticed was how well the car now tracks straight on the highway and how I can keep my hands relaxed on the steering wheel without correcting it much. It use to have the tenancy to drift to the right and after having an alignment performed, it still pulled a little to the right. Now after two days of driving it, I am convinced that the software update to the entire vehicle had something to do with the more precise better tracking steering.
Has anyone else noticed this as well? Would be interesting to see if anyone has any feedback or knowledge of this or if it's true. |

I took my 535i in for the same thing a month ago. I never had any pulling problem but after the new program, the steering seem a bit stiffer and the transmission smoother from 1st to 2nd. Overall, the car drives better on the highway.

Sweet. Confirmed. I tested the car again on several roads and it does track straight very well and hold its line. So much more comfortable driving the car without correcting all the as I was before. Transmission also seems to shift a lot smoother from 1st to 2nd gear.

This should be normal for our cars after a program update or reprogramming, especially noticeable for the transmission and throttle response. After a couple of weeks, your tranny and throttle will adjust to your driving style again and essentially go back to how it was before. Since it got that way due to your driving habits.

I'd also love to hear more specifics of this. Is there a way to tell what version of software our car has? I also just had a post-break-in oil change (1600 miles) but nothing like that was done to my car.
I have a 2013 535i M-sport with the sport auto trans. The two mechanical disappointments I have with the car are the slow steering ratio (was this changed on your car, or is the ratio mechanical?), and the slow takeoff/lag from stops and near-stops. Thanks. Last edited by mness; 09-22-2013 at 10:21 PM.. |
