I got about seven speeding tickets since i got my 535i. And I'm not really a speeder. most of these tickets are about 20 KM over speed limits - so nothing crazy. The point being there isn't much room to enjoy the extra power.
So, if i were to turn back the clock i would maybe go for the 523i with all the features. unless you live in germany then get a 550i and hit the autobahnen! |

There is literally NO WAY I would own an F10 550 in the States, or really anywhere where I was faced with a constant speed limit. I totally understand how someone could but for me it would be impractical for both pleasure and licensing. I have been in Germany so long that every now and then I "slow down" to 65mph and after a minute my family is like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!??!?!?!?!" and I simply reply "reminding myself what 65 is like."
For those that may wonder, I think I would rather stab myself in the face with a fork repeatably then drive 65mph (+/- 15mph)! 65 literally feels like your are crawling its almost painful.

If you'd get the 523 why not the 528 its soooo much more fun for revving.. and u'd still notice its alot more weak then the 535i at low revs |

But 550s are so much cheaper in the states, and you tend to gain weight over there (i gain 10-15% at least).. i don't know how I could resist getting the largest engine model for every single car I bought, just cuz i would never do the same in HK |

I hear ya grimlock, but I think I would be on Cops or 6 o'clock news, I would be cruising down New Jersey Turnpike, like the lower exits where it gets real quiet at 130mph, get pulled over by the entire NJ State Police, with several news cameras overhead, and ask, "whats the problem officer?"

Instead of taking it as a personal insult, you should perhaps consider yourself flattered in that he's interested in your advice. |

Clearly he is under the gun like he said. The interwebs are pretty impersonal, but you have to follow some kind of etiquette |

Do you by any chance wear a quilted smoking jacket and write from an oak panelled study, with Jeeves at your beck and call? |

meh, I can see both sides honestly.
OP, spamming the internet on as many venues as possible to get back as much input as possible. Check back in a few days and see what the results were sort of thing. Repliers, take the time to type out a well thought discussion hoping to enter into a dialogue / discussion only to find your merely the dude at the drive in window taking an order. Are either one wrong in their stance, absolutely not. This is the internet people have differing views of their relationships here. If a friend was to call me up and ask for my thoughts on a subject and I spend 20 minutes explaining my view and soon as I say I am done the phone line goes dead, I would kick his arse! Even more if he was calling someone else (ie. posting on another forum) right after hanging up! I do think jk apologizing anymore is retarded and should cease like yesterday. He did no wrong, no need to dredge this back again, its like the morning after chowing on old cold pizza after a hard night of drinking.

if it's not reckless driving (which inlcudes excessive speeding) then it doesn't go to the DL point system. So, parking tickets, mild speeding.. etc don't impact your DL status. for the 528 i never really considered it becuase my decision was to go for turbo or non turbo. and that's the only reason i went for the 535. |

I know others will disagree, but having driven a 2011 535i xdrive, it felt....not very fast. The lack of top end power was particularly disconcerting. After 5000 rpm, the engine runs out of steam very quickly.
I've never driven the 550i, but according to magazine reviews, it's about as fast as the 335i. And I can tell you that the difference between the 335i (with the N54 engine) and the 2011 535i is HUGE. |

As for the 535, it is very fast, not sure what the deal was with the one you test drove but for 4 doors, not many can hang with the 535 without seriously busting the bank.

3 will inherently handle better than the 5 because of the 5's larger wheel base. but straighline, it will be a close call. Even in higher rpms, the 8 speed is just too "trick" unlike the older 6 speed that is slower. 6 speed manual, well, you have a point, ratios in the 335i are closer than the 5 series. I guess BMW didn't want a faster 535i than 3 series in 35i guise. |

I drove both the 550 and the 535 F10. Yes the 535 was lighter. But both cars are very heavy. If you want a toss able car, and if nimble handling is important to you, You must look elsewhere (maybe the 3 series). I love my 550 for its quality, smoothness, power and solid feel. but, it is not at all toss able nor does is it reward that style of driving.
