530d 60mpg
Well as title states
Wasn't in a rush this morning when I drove from Gatwick to Wycombe in the UK, a distance of nearly 60 miles along motorways. Set the (ACC) cruise control to 60 and worked my way through the traffic which generally flowed all the way. Engine was slightly warm when I started. End result was was nearly 61mpg. I know this isn't very exciting compared to a lot of topics on these forums but I posted it up as I never fail to be impressed by how efficient this engine is , a light foot, and it seems to run on air! I've got 200 miles out of a quarter tank of fuel which is pretty amazing for a 3 litre engine . 1.8 ton car. (Apologies for quality of photo taken with blackberry) |

At the other end of things, if you floor it, it will get to 62mph in 6 seconds dead (BMW's figures)
Just incredible and I persoanlly think the best compromise for an engine in this car (I wouldn't turn down a M5 though!) |

Great figures, I have an f11 530d MS on order and am either in a flat out rush or with time to spare on roads with slow average speeds, great to hear the mpg, I have been worried I may pay a lot more in fuel than 520. What would you say your average works out at and how do you find the much maligned steering ?

as regards fuel consumption, I'm not using the car for commuting so my mileage doesn't generally reflect heavy traffic so these figures are no doubt better than probably a lot of people.
I have found in heavy traffic i get around 25mpg, lighter town traffic (without a heavy foot) around 35mpg, motorways at 70 mph around 40-45mpg - something like that, motorways at 60mph 50mpg plus. Average as you can see from the picture to date over 6500 miles is 41.5mpg, but i think most people are getting more like 36-40 or thereabouts. I'm sure those with 520ds can chip in with their figures but my guess is that these (530d) are probably not much worse than a 520d. it really is such a good engine, best of both worlds and in my opinion , at least for the UK, the best compromise between speed and economy. As this is a global forum these are imperial gallons. Divide by 1.2 to get US gallons. As for the steering, i guess it depends where you've come from. I cam from a E39 530i msport with 18 ince wheels and I don't think the F10 comes close as regards the feel of the road and the connected feel you got. You really could feel the road and what the front wheels were doing. The F10 (I have msport passive suspension with 19inch wheels) is more luxury than sporty. the steering is lighter particulary at low speeds and does feel a bit disconnected but you do get used to it.If you were coming from a lesser car, you probably wouldn't think it was bad , i just happen to think the E39 steering was nigh on perfect and therefore was a going to be tough to beat. (In fact the E39 was , and is , such a good car) Good luck with your car, its a very good choice. |

If I remember correctly, its under vehicle information. I'm assuming your carhas the ecopro mode as I believe this is only present on later cars that have this mode.

Reality check: If you drive slow with ANY car it takes less fuel. Bigger engine=More fuel. The BC is usually off by 5% so I recommend you check consumption at the pump. You can also calibrate it using the test menus.
This is statistics from the real world of 47 530D: http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/overvi...30&powerunit=2 And now for 74 520D: http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/overvi...20&powerunit=2 Ie, 530D takes 21% more fuel than a 520D, in the REAL world. For me I am even more impressed by the Gasoline 530 at just 11% more than the diesels. And almost same with 5355 and 535i, only 18% difference at average.
