Replacement Keys Yikes!!!! Anyone have any ideas

I seem to have misplaced a key to my 2013 528i somewhere in the catacombs of my house so I went to the dealer to get a new one today and was quoted $495.00. I'm wondering if any other members here have been quoted other prices.

Another question, I have been told that the existing key I have left over from my trade cant be reprogrammed and that any eBay keys cant be reprogrammed. Today the parts counter said it can be done. Has anyone had experience with this? The key I have has the exact FCC codes and part number for my f10.

Thanks again....

You would still need the dealer to program the key for you.

thanks guys. I was able to get some info. Dealer cost on the key for non CA with the hard key programmed from BMW (does not need dealer programming) is $188.00 Any dealer charging $495 should be ashamed. I was able to get mine for not more than that through a friend.

I still am curious about the programming a previously used key to another car. I am told its impossible.

EWS is car-specific.

After translation......

Better protection against theft: The electronic immobilizer (EWS) is encoded and decoded on the vehicle key access to your BMW vehicle and the boot process.

The electronic immobilizer secures BMW vehicles with an electronically coded chip in the key. It contains a fixed personality code and a second code to the EWS changes at each startup.
When the ignition it first reads the personality code and then asks for the code change. Both answers are accepted, the EWS is the Digital Motor Electronics (DME) with a free also coded signal, which requires the engine to start. Without this signal, the engine itself can not be started by shorting.
The data is transmitted wirelessly via an antenna in the steering lock and key with integrated remote control. This moreover is equipped with a maintenance-free battery that automatically recharges itself while driving. In case of loss of the key, you can leave this block of the workshop and will be immediately sent a replacement key.
