Folding mirrors and the Recirc button

Two quick questions which I cannot seem to find the answers to, hopefully someone on here knows.

1 - I have a button to manually fold the mirrors in, can this be reprogrammed to do automatically when I lock the car and open when I unlock?

2 - The interior recirc button, I looked in the manual and it says it has two modes, A for Auto and M for Manual (Auto recircs when it detects pollutants and Manual is always on recirc). Now I notice that it has a third mode when both of those are turned off, in which case what does this do?
I thought it would naturally be recirc off, however I left it in that mode previously and I couldn't smell the usual barrage of diesel fumes and things I would smell previously in my last car (non-BMW), so I am unsure.
Of course it could be the filtration system is just better overall whether on or off, but curious anywho.

Thanks all!

1. Yes by coding
2. As you say - auto on/off, always on (recirc), always off.

That was very fast - thanks!

I suppose leading on from question 1, how do I go about having this coded? Can my main dealer do it?

Dealer won't do it. There are lots of threads on here about coding and what can be done. Essentially you need software (E-Sys) and a ENET/OBDII cable and a bit of computer savvy and you can program all manner of stuff. If you do a search you will get some ideas.

Aaah I see, why won't the dealer do it? Or is it because its only offered as "factory"?

Can anyone on here program it?

Dealers won't program modules. Lots of us can do it, it's not too difficult. See this thread.

Thanks xenon, hopefully I can find someone not to far from me to do it.

Cheers!

To point 1, when you lock the car with the remote you could simply keep your thumb on the lock button for a couple of seconds longer and the mirrors will fold in...

Does anyone actually do this? If so how long do your keyfob batteries last? It seems that pressing the button for 2 seconds rather than 0.25 seconds must hammer the battery unless the fob is pretty clever.

I've been folding the mirrors with a long press most times I lock the car for the past 2 years without problem or perceivable reduction in range, so it can't hammer them that much?

Fair enough. The fob must be smart enough to not actually transmit anything whilst you are holding the button down. Nice to know.

Just tried that on my Sep '16 640i and it doesn't work. Odd considering the software similarity. I'll check 'settings' again but I don't recall seeing it as an option.

In the G30 / G31 it is now an option in the i drive to fold the mirror when locking the vehicle. Seems BMW have listened to feedback.
