Spare tire question ?
I'm getting aftermarket wheel w/o run flat tire. Can I use one oem wheel/tire as a spare tire in the trunk for long distance?
I'm driving a AWD 535xi & overall diameter of oem tire is 26.7 & my aftemarket will be 27. Sorry if this question has been asked before. |

You sure can....I added aftermarket wheels and got a flat two days later....used one of the front tires as a spare overnight, waiting for my new tire....I then went to Bimmerzone and purchased a spare tire and jack kit.....

Have a look at the OEM Compact spare-wheel system: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...=36&fg=95&hl=3 Since there is no more niche available for a spare wheel (battery is sitting there), this is the best solution.
Upd.1: This one with options at Bimmerzone: http://www.bimmerzone.com/BMW_Perfor...T-F10-KIT.html Upd.2: And here another member is selling one: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1083223 Last edited by valbmw; 01-24-2015 at 04:53 PM.. |

Awesome to hear I can throw 1 wheel in the trunk for long distance, along with my floor jack & lug wrench. I'm not worry about city driving.
I prefer to change my own tire vs calling a flat bed for a simple flat. More risk of damaging my new wheels too with the tow truck. So .3 inch difference in overall diameter won't screw up my AWD system? |

In the trunk I just keep some Slime Tubeless Tire Sealant and a small road emergency kit that includes a powered tire pump. Voila...no need for a spare.

Agree: sealant and electric pump is another options. However maybe I am not alone who never used this method. Still prefer to replace when necessary and have the wheel repaired in a tire shop.
From usage point of view the compact spare is safe. First of all, this is the OEM thing provided for your F10 535iX. Secondly, the theory of confusing xDrive is a bit overestimated. The wheel has flat contact spot on the road, and the rolling diameters need to be much more different to stress the xDrive box. I heard a theoretical percent limit was calculated somewhere, definitely more than .3 inch. This is the same as for the OEM staggered setup for xDrive of front 245 - rear 275. |

Awesome Thx Valbmw! I'm glad the AWD system won't suffer much from a temporary flat change.
Ben2K9, that is a good second option.. But I never had good luck with those sealant can. And air pump only works for small puncture. My oem are square set-up so I can use any of them as a spare. Thx a lot for all the help. |
