M Sport Steering wheel clean

Hi all

I have a M Sport Steering wheel in my car and want to prevent it from becoming shiny and glossy as much as possible. I do my best to wash my hands before driving.

It has 36,000 miles of use on it and still feels and looks very much from the factory but would appreciate advice from other members to ensure it stays this way.

Thanks in advance!

Glyptone is good stuff. I've used a little fairy liquid in hot water and it comes up well with no adverse effects. I'm sure I'll get flamed for doing so but all you are effectively doing is breaking down the accumulation of oil that comes off your hands.

Thanks guys I'll look into this product! Is there a particular place to purchase this item and how often would you recommend using it?

Thanks again!

Dr Leather wipes are also good for a quick once over for the steering wheel and seats. Wear some latex/nitrile gloves while doing so though else you won't get the scent off for a day or too.

Dr leather wipes for me too. I use them on all of the seats too. I asked a similar question two years ago and everyone on here recommended Dr Leather wipes. I buy them from Amazon.

Hi balster

Dr Leather seems to be the product of choice and especially as you have tackled same point about your steering. This has given me confidence and will lean more to this. How are you finding your Steering condition since using Dr Leather and how often do you use it. Also do you apply the product to seats as well?

Thanks in advance

Hi Turks

I've just had a look at the link you have and I must say the products look very high quality and premium level goods. I will definitely look into this esp for that matte finish I'm after!

Thanks a million

Highly recommended on Detailing World... A lot of people talk about how good it is and the Owner of LTT regularly posts giving advice.

If your wheel is dirty or shiny you could always use a "Flash - Magic Eraser" pad, just wet and rub on the wheel, it takes all the crap off the wheel and the unwanted grease which has built up. It's a cheap and effective fix. You can buy the pads in Tesco’s or Sainsbury’s and they cost less than £3 a pack.

Yes to everything leather in the car. The Steering wheel feels nice and smooth.

Used Gliptone and Dr Leather Cleaner spray. Both work well and leave a matt finish but I much prefer Dr Leather in application and smell (Gliptone has a traditional leather smell).

I personally wouldn't use a magic eraser unless it's gotten to the stage of shine where a cleaner will no longer return it to factory matt. You have to be very careful as Magic erasers can be a little aggressive and wear the leather dye down as it is abrasive.

As an alternative. Microfibre with warm soapy (fairy liquid or APC) water will also work to remove oils from hands on the leather.

I haven't tried Dr leather wipes but I'm sure its just the same as the spray but handy to have in the car just in case. They'll be on my next shop list. Great stuff.
