Congrats, she's a beauty!

i know what you mean about others wanting to buy it as they saw it. I thought it was a monstrosity that didn't deserve to live but once i saw it in flesh at Frankfurt Motor show i thought that it's a pretty cool car and looks much better in real life. Id' still have one in dark gray as opposed to white but that's details.

Just out of interest, can you tell me why you thought this was a right car for you? I'm curious what kind of person buys this car.

In Virginia the plates belong to the car owner, not the car. We used the plates from 335i we traded in. They just took the plates off the 335 and put them on the 550. Nice part is the dealer does all the paperwork with DMV.

We mainly bought this car because my wife and I could not agree on what we wanted. She had a 335i and I had a 550i. I didn't like driving her car and she did not like driving mine. My wife and I also have vast height differences (I'm 6'2" and she 5'). To make it worse, I drive conservatively and like comfort. My wife likes to slide around corners, believes the gas pedal only has two position (on/off) and brakes are for wimps. This car found the happy medium between us. Now we have something we both like.

I've been looking at this car since concept and now after seeing yours I know I definitely want one. I had a couple questions. Were you able to get the active cruise control (it says it's available on the bmw site but not an option on configurator)? Also, does the rear camera have the around view option? Enjoy your awesome new car.

That's an interesting compromise between the two of you. But am I right to understand you are saying this car feels more sporty than a regular (non GT) 550i?

It's not as stiff as the 550i and you don't feel the road as much. We haven't really put it down in sports+ yet and played with it (only have 200 miles on the car). Acceleration wise the GT will throw you back, and you don't loose that feeling since you never really feel it shift gears. This engine with the 8 speed transmission is a vast improvement over my 550i. I don't think the GT car will take high speed corners as well as the 550i, since it is a much heavier car and sits higher. But we haven't put that to the test yet.

I will say that when the 550i comes out in 2011, with this engine and transmission it is going to be one impressive car.

Got all the packages, but didn't get the special Options of Heads Up, Night Vision or Active Cruise Control. With what we use the car for, we figured we would never use any of them.

Did not get active cruise control (not a option we went for). Not sure what rear camera around view means? I am attaching a picture of the rear camera with parking assist and distance sensors engaged. Not sure if this will answer your question.

First control we had to find was the speed limiter alert. So far not a slouch for performance. We are still in the gentle phase and I am doing everything i can to keep the wife out of sports+ mode (not sure how long that will last). This car will easily blow my 550i off the road. All in all extremely happy.
I think that if they called it the X7 they'd have more of a reason for it to cost more
