Issues with brake pad wear sensors
I just replaced my rear pads/rotors at just over 60,000 miles.
Sensor never notified me of wear. But it ended up being full on metal on metal. Worst noise I have ever heard from brakes, especially by the time I got it in. Mechanic indicated that if I had gone much longer, I might have damaged the calipers or other components. I had the sensor replaced as well, but has anyone else had issues with this type of malfunction. Mostly just curious. Also, rear pads and rotors came in at $750, which didn't seem too bad. Seem reasonable to you? (For purposes of assessing future work at this mechanic now that I am out of warranty). Thanks! Bill

That's pretty weird. I got notices when my rear brake pads were going down.
As for $750, its about how much the dealer charged me (luckily I was still under the previous owner's maintenance planned so I didn't have to pay anything but I have the invoice). I'd highly recommend learning how to do this youself to save money. I did the front brakes and rotors like 2-3 months and it was "easy". Besides taking the wheel off, it was like 3 bolts to replace. I got all OEM spec parts so saved a good amount of money there too. Best of luck |
