I discovered similar symptoms on my 2012 CPO 550ix today. Mild rotten smell in the car, water gushing out of rear doors when opened, and rear floormats soaking wet.
I haven't found a lot of information on this issue in the F10 yet, but I will keep looking and, if I find something useful, I will post it. Not exactly looking forward to taking the car back to the service center again. |

thanks for the instructions. I have a vapor barrier leak in my rear passenger door and the dealer wanted over $300 to reapply glue to the vapor barrier to fix it. with these instructions im sure i can tackle it in an hour.

Same problem on my 2011 535xi a few weeks ago. I found these guides and they helped me do the fix. (They might actually be what was attached to the above post at one time) It's a pretty simple job. I pulled off a 6 or 8 inch length of defective butyl tape in the forward bottom corner of door, cleaned the surface, and applied the black silicone where the tape was. I used a heat gun to help it set up a little before I put the door back together. Hope this helps.

I had the same symptoms described above and replaced the vapor barrier (search real oem for "Sound Insulating Door Rear Left / Right"). Got it from my local parts counter for around $50 discounted price. You'll also need to pick up a roll of Butyl Sealant...My dealership sold me a box of 3M Window-Weld Round Ribbon Sealer for a few bucks. Advance Auto also stocks this.
I had to replace both the driver and passenger side, please see attached video from a German-speaking enthusiast for some additional insight. Fast forward to the 11:22 mark: While I was in there, I applied some Dynamat. The doors now feel more solid when closing, although it might just be a placebo effect. It helps to do this repair when it's warm outside, or just heat the area with a heat gun/etc. The first time I did this, it took about 3 hours. When I did the other side, I knocked it out in about 60 minutes. It's not that hard. No more leaks, either! |
