Also, PTF got back to me and said they don't recommend E85 on N55 engines. Any one else? they said HFPF will fail.

What did you ask in regards to E85?
Are you going to use 91 or 93 octane?
Thought about Meth or Port Injection?
Since you guys on 535 are PWG, its more E friendly than the EWG N55 in some cars it seems.
But can't tell until you log a WOT pull.

Btw check this 91 octane car

I've been running roughly 2.5-3 gallons with a full tank of 91 for 3k miles now on my PWG N55. No issues and boost is solid. I went up to 4 gallons of E85 at one point and it would shudder upon WOT and I would lose boost. I'm assuming one of the fuel pumps couldn't keep up. I need to get the JB4 Bluetooth add-on so I can log it.

If you going to tune with Bootmod3 no need to get jb4, if you're getting jb4 then yeah.

I'm running 3-4gals of E85 + 93 in my 17.7gal tank... Bootmod3 N55 STG2 but I'm only doing this cuz I'm logging and seems like my car is doing and so far so good. Each car is different so just work your way up and log. My 93 only runs feel and are much faster than my e30 mix jb4 map2/7 when i had it before. Cant wait to Dyno next week

Only issue was my HPFP, and I did have coils replaced around 60-65K miles on 2011 PWG, has some rough cold starts where the RPM would move around sporadically idk if that was more than JB4 and other mods who knows, and i loved my potatoe though

Wow, I'm going to install my catless DP soon and see if that will help with running more E85. Car is definitely a freight train on that stuff. Makes me want to upgrade my brakes lol

Does Bootmod3 offer separate maps for 91 vs 93 where the 93 has more aggressive parameters? Or is the ots map designed to self adapt when switching between 91 and 93 octanes?

It won't fail immediately but will definitely stress the fuel pump more quickly by running meth in the tank as opposed to port injection in the long run. That is why many running FBO with E85 are going with the upgraded LPFP and fueling kit from Fuel-It. I believe no companies out there currently source an upgraded HPFP for the N55, I could be wrong though. I am flashed with MP stage 1 and I normally just fill up 3-4 gallons of race gas plus unleaded octane booster to bump up the octane to roughly 95, better to be safe then screwing up the car I guess... lol

Now you have me nervous running 2-3 gallons (roughly 15%) E85 in the tank as frequently as I do. I don't seem to have any misfiring issues. From a preventative maintenance standpoint, I plan on replacing my plugs and doing a walnut shell blasting at 50k miles. Anything else recommended since I'll be running a JB4 and 2-3 gallons of E85 fairly consistently?

Well, JB4 does have support for meth on all maps if set up correctly. I believe Steve@Fuel-IT gave an brief overview over on the n54tuning forums, the thread is below. If you're still under warranty though I would personally stay away from E85 for the time being. My friend had to pay out of his pocket when his hpfp failed while running only 1-2 gallons of E85 on his JB4 14 535i, I believe the bill was an hefty $1300 for parts and labor. The dealer actually ran a E85 test kit on his car as actual proof so he had no way to have it covered under warranty.

Always start low, E85 is not the problem but the other part of whats made up in E85.
Have some type of logging tool for your Fuel Rail Pressure as you work your way up.
For JB4 users if you not running the logging tool and you blindly adding E85 then thats your risk.

Even when I had jb4 i always ran the jb4 mobile app to see my pressure at WOT, I went as much as 5 gals for 6 months. Some cars like it some dont but I dont think its E85 alone to blame, its probably a shitty blend/bad batch and you added too much and too little 93. Maybe it seems bad luck with 535?

Good thing with my Bootmod3 app I log whenever i add E85 blends and doing WOT just to make sure HPFP is happy.
I' have plenty of friends running E85 on their F30/F22 N55 and some have good luck some dont but havent heard of any failures.
Know 2 of my F30 buddies running 4-5gals of E85 + rest 93 on their full tank with 0 issues (over a year now) .

E85 ftw lol, anyone who looking for real power needs to seek Meth or Port Injection
