Wipers "hop" on ignition off

Anyone else notice that their wipers "hop" about 1/2-3/4" when you turn the ignition off?

It doesn't happen all the time but occurs sometimes.

I confirmed this today when it created a small dust line where they rested.

Could it be to vary the park position to avoid stress on the rubber if the wipers are off for long periods ?

Stewart.

Do you happen to have anything hanging from your garage that would make contact with the windsheild? I have a ball of tape that hits the windsheild so I know when to stop. I thought this may have been triggering the mechanism.

I think they move to a position where something uncouples and you can then easily move them by hand across the screen in order to then be able lift them up for hand washing. First car I've had that does that. Give it a try.

I haven't noticed in my car, but I am wondering if like my old Audi, its intention:

- upon start up, the wipers shift to prolong the age of the wiper rubber, by getting the blades out of their stationary position
- in the winter, below 2C (or just above freezing), the rest position of the blades is 2mm above the glass to avoid the rubber from freezing to the glass.

I'll watch for this.

No nothing hanging in my garage. Although I do park in a garage, and I believe (but am not 100% certain) that something could be triggering or "confusing" the mechanism as I park.

(in the last couple feet/inches, my automatic lights turn on and the car goes into "night mode" with all-orange gauges)

I see the floor stops and blue lines. Do you have any landing lights or radar assist that might be causing this wiper interference? Just Kidding!

Ha! What you can't see is a marble table that's about 6 inches from the nose of the car with about 100 different car care fluids. What can I say, I'm pretty anal.

Happens to me too sometimes. Any resolution from others who had experienced it last year?

Happens sometimes. Don't think it's a big deal. I would't worry about it. Probably just the blades resetting to the correct position after shutdown.

I asked about it to my dealer, and the answer was: if you use wiper even only once when car is running, automatic wipers will always be active and waiting to be responsive. After some observations i realized the same thing. Hope this helps...

It is an intentional design feature to prevent the wipers from parking in the same spot each time.

While it appears random, it must have some sort of pattern - wejust don't see it.

Thanks. I guess that must be the reason as it rains a lot here in Malaysia. Will observe it for a bit.
