Get the 535 and enjoy it! You'll most likely be very happy with it until you drive 550. So, don't even test drive 550 if you're aiming at 535! I warned you haha )

Wow, crazy amount of 550i bashing. Buy what you like and even in congested DC traffic I'm glad I have the v8. Mine is a 2011 and I haven't had one single issue in 77k miles. I only did the CCP because I heard I would get free spark plugs and injectors. My old 545i also was virtually issue free at 150k miles when I traded it in.
Go v8 on the used market. Get a loaded car for not much more than the 528 or 535 and you'll won't regret it a single day. |

I wonder if the N63 issue has really been blown out of proportion on the forums. I have the V8 N63 and have had not a single issue in three years of driving. I did the CCP and had no issues prior to having it done and no issues after it was completed.
I did recently have a 535i loaner that was actually very nice. I found with the reduced weight up front, it did handle better in the corners than the 550i and still had great acceleration in a straight line. The 550i of course is faster but for the cost difference, if I did it again I'd have to think carefully. Long term ownership for the V8 will most definitely be more expensive. More injectors, more spark plugs, more expensive oil changes and probably more reliability issues. If I was purchasing again, I think the 535i would be the best of the three engines for long term ownership. |

Rear tires every 15k miles too but I think I had something to do with that. if I drove like I had an egg under the pedal I may have been able to squeak out 20k. Long live the v8 rwd manual |
