lol you guys are hilarious going back and forth so confusing. lets get a few things clear:

When entering the car from the OUTSIDE: you grab the door handle regularly and on the door handle will automatically unlock the door as you pull on the handle. Then you get into the car after.

When already INSIDE and wanting to exit the vehicle: you pull the door handle once to lift up the lock, and pull the door handle once again to open the door as you leave the vehicle.

You also have the option of touching the ribs / lines on top of the door handle located OUTSIDE the vehicle to lock the door. These ribs are located at the top of the door handle on all 4 handles.

I just bought myself a 2014 535i Non-M Sport with 32K miles for my 30th birthday.

This is my first BMW and had a few questions/concerns.

I had owned/leased several cars in my life, longest ownership being a little over 3 years.. I had always wanted a car that I could keep for a long time (10+ years) but didn't really set on a car until I learned about BMW and its performance/history.

I wanted my car to be a rear-wheel drive, sedan with a manual transmission. I considered leasing a 2018 330i but ultimately ended up with this one.

I went to the dealership, test drove it and ended up buying the vehicle right there.

The vehicle:
-One owner, personal lease
-No accidents
-Driver's side door lock sometimes won't unlock when pulling the handle
-Occasionally, driver's side eyelid light above the angel eyes won't come on
-Weird order from the A/C
-No warranty

I'd heard about the cost of ownership. I didn't care because this car had everything I wanted. But honestly, I think I should've taken a more careful look at the car before taking it home. I don't even have a history of this car.

Now tell me, what did I get myself into?

Please, any advice on how to keep this baby great and care free will be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you all in advance.
Make sure the recall was accomplished on the A/C system condenser. It leaks and causes the smell.

What recall? My 2014 (and the 2012 for that matter) show no recalls.

Depending on what you paid for it, you almost certainly have bought a magnificent car for a bargain! When a door lock isn't doing this or that is just a detail which you can perfectly also have with a new car...
