Unhappy Trunk broken?

Hey fellow members! so i popped my trunk open today and it flew open and clearly shook the whole car and boy did i thought it was gonna break my back window! anyone have this issue on their F10 and what needs to be done to fix it? i couldn't tell from a visual glance but is their springs or shocks or something involved that finally gave way? please chime in if you had this happen to you and what you had to do or know of someone that had the same issue

It's probably the shock/spring coil... I had to replace mine on my e60... it wasn't hard to change out

There should be TWO springs that you will need to replace.
I'll bet only one of the two broke, but might as well replace both while you're at it.

They are relatively inexpensive, I think I remember I got both for under $200.

For my F10, I replaced TWO springs even though only one broke.
The two springs were different part numbers.

Got them from the dealership since they were pretty cheap.
