Watch out. Some of the hid kit out there may screw up your sensitive light control module unit. You ask how & why ?
I had experienced that with my 2008 535 E60. Put in the latest canbus hid kit and ran it for about 2 weeks without any problem. Then one day, the Adaptive headlight malfunction error showed up and the dealer traced the problem to the hid kit due to voltage irregularities. (In the meantime, the fog hid still works) Explanation from the dealer: Every time the fog hid turned on for the 1st 5secs or so, there was a power draw variance compared to stock halogen, the computer logged the unusal variance over time and decided to shut down the LCM (which controls the adaptive headlight). Since it was not a warranted item. Repair cost exceeded $1000 out of my pocket. Lesson learned. I know thousands of people have put in Hid fog kit in their bimmers but there is always a possibility that it can go wrong. If you are so unlucky. |
