Take a video of the tach with your smartphone to show the dealer and BMWNA. That's what I did and the next time the dealer said that they couldn't duplicate the problem...indisputable evidence.

Go it on video. They said its normal. Plus keeping the AC off at start up should quell the issue. Haven't tried it yet.
But it's most annoying since this NORMAL occurrence didn't happen at delivery nor for a while. And.this new thing is considered normal.

There is a software update for this issue. I had mine updated and the surging idle stopped. The dealership tried to tell me it was the K&N air filter that was causing the idle to surge, even though there is a SIB out there for this. They changed their mind for an unknown reason and did the update in the end. Check out the PDF I attached as this SIB only pertains to certain models built during a specified time period.

I had this issue and the March software update fixed it completely.

Problem fixed, BMW dealer updated the software on the vehicle with the latest one.... they say it is a Note for this issue which calls for the software update.

My Car Engine stops while Driving

Hi ! I am driving 520i 2010 model, has done 160K Km mileage, I have noticed my car stops all of sudden when engine speeds slows down ( less than 1000 rpm) After 2-3 seconds, I again started the car by pressing the ignition button.
I had checked with my german cars speciliast garage, they checked in the system and didnt find any fault , either in fuel tank/filer. they cleaned the complete Air filter ( which was new ) and other Air filer pipes with some spray to remove the dirt in the intake. Now the car is running, but I am afraid to take into highways.
But I am not convinced, Any idea what will be actual problem >
