For Nikon: http://nikonimglib.com/nefcodec/

I don't know about the NIKON codec, but I know with the Canon codec you will be able to see your .CR2/RAW files in thumbnail and Preview mode on Windows based PC's. Once you double click the thumbnail it will still open with PS.

Thanks. Have to wait to try it on my laptop at home. My work machine is 64-bit and this doesn't support 64-bit Windows.

***** never mind, played around with a few functions on the computer, had to associate the file with windows live photo gallery for it to work. there still isn't a preview window showing up though.

By preview do you mean you can't see the thumbnails of the photo? In order to see previews you have to right-click the file and then move down to the third option "preview". Once you click that you can view all the .CR2/RAW files.

there's no picture in the bottom left corner or anything, but it does work in windows live photo viewer where it didn't before, so i can at least review the pictures in a more normal way. So this does solve a problem for sure

thanks

Works like a charm on 32-bit Windows 7 on my laptop. Just what I've been missing. Great find! Thanks.

Panicos,
You need to level the horizon, it is slightly off.
Your exposure was F10 and 20 seconds and the picture is on the dark side. You can get away with using an aperture of ~F8 with the same time to get more detail in all that black or crop it by about 1/3rd.

That was technical now here is the artistic.
An option you can try is to move as close as the surface of the water as you dare without getting wet.
Generally speaking you should try to take a photo from an angle that you would not normally see with your eye. That can be from a very low angle or a high one. This looks like it is over the surface of the water ~15 feet, like you walked up, set the tripod and took the picture. If you can do this with the moonlight shining on the water it will not be so black.

might be worth looking into that codec then for you. It started working fully on my computer now, so it's kind of a nice treat to not have to worry about JPEG files.

Yeah Dave,

Download that codec then you will only have to take .raw photos = more space on your card AND preview options in windows similar to .jpeg I was frustrated before by not being able to see .raw and the .jpegs taking up extra space.

Wow, so this is supposedly a real picture. Although they claim they weren't making out. They say the girl got knocked down and was in a panic and the guy was trying to calm her.

Still , if you download the image and zoom in close, there is weird pixelation all around them that doesn't fit the background. Could have been aberration from the lens, though. The article says this is a Getty Image, so one would expect it to be authentic.

Nice shot, then. Photog got the DOF just right, which couldn't have been easy in all that chaos.

I'm 64-bit Windows 7. Someone said earlier that the codec doesn't work in 64-bit. Still, thanks for the suggestion.

My cards are 32-Gig. The jpegs never make it off my card, so I don't really consider them a big issue. The only time they annoy me a little is when I'm shooting at 7-fps and the buffer gets filled earlier than with RAW-only. That's a minor deal because I usually only do around 4-shots in burst mode, but I DO occasionally fill the buffer.

Yeah, it won't work in 64-bit. You can run 32-bit programs in 64-bit Windows, but this is not a program. It's a driver. It has to be written for 64-bit. Too bad because I do a great deal of editing on my workstations and they're both 64-bit. I end up just accessing the SD Card through Adobe Bridge, which actually gives me quick access to ACR and PS.

I tried to get some of the Milky Way up in the Grand Canyon with some 20-30 second exposures and was able to get some of it with a 100/2.8 I think.
