F10 550I LCI or 2017 G30 540I

Hello,

I have been debating purchasing between 2017 G30 540i Msport package and 2016 F10 550i Fully optioned with the 3rd party warranty. which one would you guys recommend? both cars have 52-54K miles.

Any advice would be appreciated!

What is your capacity for risk? The inline six in the 540 is a much more trouble free motor.

I love my F10 550i, but you should also consider that the G30 will have newer technology, including 4G for remote services. The F10 series used 3G which has since been decommissioned so you can no longer received traffic data and other data-related services such as remote locking, etc.

Also agree that a newer G30 with the inline 6 should prove much more reliable, if somewhat less exciting to drive (although honestly still a very strong motor).

All depends on what your objective is.. If you are handy and work on your car yourself and are able to do retrofits and love the power of a V8 (Tunable to 600+hp..) then go for the F10. Having all options is really nice too. ventilated seats, active cruise and all are very functional and handy features.

Today though, I'd look for a newer well optioned 540i or m550i. So its not an easy decision but hope you are satisfied by what ever you end up with

Assume that less risk will be associated with the inline 6 of the 540i but also assume that more reward could be had with the twin turbo v8 of the 550i. Just my $.02 but i think both are fully capable of embarking a grin from ear to ear. GL and post pics when you bring something home.

Are you an A to B kind of owner/driver, or one that cherishes every second behind the wheel? The 540i will likely be the more reliable of the two, but not to say that the 550i won't be reliable. On the flip side, the 550i will do nothing but bring you joy every mile you're behind the wheel, both in terms of power and feel.

Go with the 540i if,
  • Think of cars as getting you from point A to B (but in style)
  • You want a more reliable engine
  • You're after the latest electronics and gadgets
  • Want better mileage
  • Slightly cheaper car to repair and easier to work on

Go with the 550i if,
  • You're an adrenaline junkie and love the rush of 0-60 in sub 4secs
  • You cherish the feel of the road and handling (F10 550i is the last car ever to be made by BMW with hydraulic power steering)
  • Dislike the look of all modern BMWs (lol, highly subjective here)

IIRC, there's at most a 1/2 second difference in the 0-60 times.

Only the X-Drives have hydraulic steering racks.
