Why do some M Sport cars have sport seats and others do not?

Makes no sense...

The comfort seats are now a stand-alone option; previously they were included (at a higher price of course) in the "Sport/M-Sport Package.

Every model year BMWNA has to decide which options to offer separately and which to include in various packages. For 2011 and 2012 the multi-countour or "comfort" seats were included in the sport or M sport packages. For 2013 these seats were dropped from the M sport package and became a stand alone option.

BMWNA has to make judgements as to which combinations of options will maximize their revenue. I would imagine they are using some sophisticated math tools in this task but they might just be making wild-assed guesses based on dealer surveys and such. Anyways, they probably have determined that the seats don't make $1300 worth of difference to customers who buy out of dealer inventory because it seems like most dealer-ordered M sports have been built with standard seats in the 2013 model year.

This is a shame. I would pay more than that if they weren't on my '12 MSport. Look and feel like a premium seat!

You would think on a Sports Package you would want sport seats?

So the first seats are the comfort seats? And they cost more?

They are the standard seats, they feel like cardboard. I didn't know it was a separate option, my car arrived, i had even told my SA "i don't need a test drive, i'm familiar with the car and driven it before, lets just sign the paperwork." As i was waiting for the the credit check, he mentioned the car in the show room was mine. I strolled by, opened the door, sat down, and immediately hopped back out of the car. At first i thought it was an error, but then after some digging, we all found out they removed it as a standard option for 2013. I told them i didn't want the car, ordered a new one on the spot, had to wait longer, but i wouldn't want to go back to that standard 328 loaner car hard bench of a seat.

What is the difference, if any, between the comfort seat package and the luxury seating package (other than the ventilation and butt massage)?

The options are Multi Contour Seats and Luxury Seating Package. MCS is just for the seat itself, 18 way adjustable seats, comes with heated. The Luxury Package includes the MCS seats, but also adds the massager and the ventilated seats. Not sure where everyone is getting the "comfort seat package", not on the F10, unless it's new for 2014 and i'm just aware. Your options are basically this;

1. Cheap seats that feel like hard cardboard and are the same ones in the 328 loaner cars they give with no options.

2. Luxury Seating Package - which is the Multi Contour Seats + ventilated + massagers. ($2900 option including heated seats, which it makes you select)

3. Just buy the Multi Contour Seats without the massaging and ventilated, this comes with heated seats. ($1800 option including heated seats which again, it makes you select)

I went with option 3. I don't need massaging while i drive, and i really dislike the feel of cold air on my butt. Maybe it's just me but it feels weird. The multi contour seats are a must, in the very least. Scrap the massaging and cooling of your butthole.

Man .. U Americans are really spoiled to the max in terms of purchasing a car. If the car we ordered wasnt the one we wanted, we would just have to suck up to it.

The seats in the first pic are the standard seats. The ones in pic #3 are multi-contour. BMW makes sport seats for the F10 but they have never been offered in the US even though the sport seats have been pictured in US brochures.

Multi-contour seats are a $1300 option in the 528 and 535 and come standard in the 550.

Different specifications in different markets... here in the UK an M-sport has sport seats as standard, with the option to upgrade to the comfort (MCS) seat.

Non sport models with standard seats can be specified with the option of sport, or comfort seats.

My car has the 'normal' M-sport seat. I personally see the comfort seat as a more advanced sport seat.

There is no such thing as the sport package in the US, just the M-Sport package. With the M-Sport, you get the cheap seats, the upgrade seats are optional for another $1300.

How about the LCI? Can't figure out if they get the same Standard Seats or a special "Sport Seat" as standard now.

They are not Euro sport seats. Look above, the Euro sport seats do not have the articulating backrest.

I am hoping that they are a new multi-contour seat with bolsters (as in E60) but not holding my breath that they come here.
