Question F10 520d Bluetooth - Passing control to phone on engine stop

Hello All, perhaps your experience can help...

I often take calls in the car (Blackberry 9780) over bluetooth, and I need to continue the call even once I am stopped and parked.

I turn engine off and even lock car BUT the call is still connected to car bluetooth (controller screen etc.).

How do I pass control back to my mobile/cell when I walk away without cutting the call?

Searched the forums and hunted my mobile for a option/button to change this, no luck.

Thanks

Jed

On my I-phone the option comes up on my phone rather than the I Drive, my suggestion is check your phone side instead.

Its very dependent on the phone and the phones software version.
Each model works differently.
The online BMW compatibility chart used to show what problems certain phones experience.
Will check if yours is on there

It can only be controlled through the phone.

I haven't used a bb in a very long time so cannot comment, but on my iphone there is always a window that allows be to choose from 3 options: BMW, Speakerphone, and Phone. I just hit phone and walk out of the car

You can go here and check the feature compatibility of your phone
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...=EU&country=UK

I didnt see any problems about the bluetooth for their software version

Did you actually turn off everything in the car or only stop the engine ?
I know on may Nokia you have to disable Bluetooth in Idrive to disconnect the phone if you dont turn the car off totally by pressing the start button till everything is off.

Hi E90Fleet, actually I had checked that link before, no issues like this on it, and is compatible.

Turned off engine, and locked car with remote, but did not press radio on off button (normally radio turns off when locking car, so assumed bluetooth would switch off when locking car too)

Let me try and press radio button on dash off next time.... might solve

The radio should only turn off when the call has finished or it looses its bluetooth connection. The other posters are correct in that you should normally perform this function on the phone. Using a Galaxy S2 there are buttons on the phone to do this. I'm not familiar with the BB but if you have no buttons for this then usually disabling Bluetooth on the phone will transfer it to the phone. Also getting out of range of the Bluetooth from the car will usually transfer it to the phone and the radio will then shut down.

Thumbs up Problem Solved, not a button, but a menu item

All thanks for your good feedback

I trialed it last night again... in fact you have to press BB menu button, and there is an 'activate handset' option there (I should have remembered, same happens for plug in handsfree earphones!)

I guess I was looking for an on screen button next to the mute-hold-add participant options....

Lesson re-learned...!

BMW does some really silly things with their idrive.....they need to copy Audi's MMI more.

As with this example in an Audi - if you turn off the engine - fine....the call should continue....but as soon as you open the door the call should auto revert to the phone. Or in BMW's case....maybe if you pressed the stop button a 2nd time it should do this.....both better solutions than having get out of the car, lock it and still have the call going inside the car lol

Yes, I agree auswill... I have had two Audi's with MMI and they work much more intuitively in this area, especially the dial up, it just uses the voice activated tags on your phone, e.g. dial 'name' and off it goes....
I have all but given up on voice dialing in my F10, saved all my main numbers, and NOT ONE works properly despite setting them all up twice (and the double voice verification), it is simply crap crap crap... it does not recognise the name or commands properly (got it to work once)... so have reverted to assigning numbers to radio presets... rubbish

Hi jedpause - I have the full voice control in my F11 and I must say generally I'm very impressed. With 500 + contacts it nearly always gets the correct one first time as long as you say it the correct way around. If the screen is set to display them as First name, Last Name then you must say them in that order otherwise you get some very strange results. So is yours the Full voice or just the limited Telephone system version?

Hi eskdale, I think it must be the telephone version only (I have no SatNav or media pack).

For the voice dialling, you have to 'train' the iDrive, so using the voice commands name, number save etc. and add a voice dial to the phone book. In other words I do not think you can simply go to a phone pbook entry in your address book and add a voice tag.... but even if you could, the problem is that it does not seem to recognise the name you are saying, that's what frustrates me... it seems to have to be EXACT... whereas the Audi MMI is far more forgiving, and knows the name you are saying without training it.

YMMV, but that's my experience with BMW

To be fair to BMW the Full Voice control is quite impressive as it recognises all the names from my contacts and there is about 500+ without any training whatsoever .

Fair comment and accept that, I guess that's just the downside of the cut-down option
