Am I just too much.
This morning, I spent 2 hours washing and detailing my car. Nice and clean and put it back in the garage, then my brother decide to take it out to buy lunch in the rain instead of taking another car that already sitting out there in the rain. I'm so upset. Wasting hours of detailing and he ruin it in just 20 mins. He think that I'm too much. It's difficult to share the car with the person who doesn't care how the car looks like. He said the car is for driving. It's not the showroom. Am I just too much?

Is the car actually yours or did you parents buy it for you or is it a shared car with your brother?
If it's first situation: fuck him. Get only 1 key and keep it to yourself. If it's the second situation: tell him to fuck off and tell him to take his own car/other car. If it's the third situation: Sorry, but your SOL. You're sharing the car and he has the right to use the car just like you have the right to detail it.

It's the third situation unfortunately. We share 2 cars equaly between 2014 BMW 528ix and MB ML350 which is mostly his everyday ride. So, I think I'm too much then. I think you made the point! tfa372.

You must not love your car enough if you only spend 2 hrs cleaning it? I leave to the car wash at 9am and don't come back home until 1 or 2pm with my wife yelling at me "was it good for you?!" Lol!

First world problems. Most people dream of having a 528 or ml350.

You need to perfect your non-detail wash. You should be able to fully wash and prep your car in 15 minutes. So, after your brother returned the car, it should take you 15 minutes to get it back to ready, Learning how to non-detail wash is an art. You have to learn how to overcome your OCD habits to get the job done quickly. If you don't learn how to non-detail wash the car in 15 minutes or less then you will lose so much enjoyment of the car and it will end up being a huge burden. |

How do you wash in 15 minutes? Seriously. I use ONR two-bucket wash, no wheels, and takes me like 40 minutes.

Agree. The trick for me is not to wash in direct sunlight. Then you can wash several panels and rinse. My routine is all top left surfaces, then rinse (include front and back left). All left vertical surfaces, and rinse. Repeat all for right side. Then wheels. Quick microfiber drying, and done. 20 minutes washed, dry, and ready to wax or drive.

It is actually really fun to develop a process to clean and dry your car in 15 minutes. I will document and post next time. |

I used to take the time to wash my DD by hand, lots of attention, wheels perfect, etc. And honestly, in a few short days it would be 25% undone. A week later, 50% undone... especially with driving long distances on the highway in the summer. My time is too valuable / limited these days. I'll drive it through a touchless car wash - gets it 80% the way there. If I happen to have the time (rare) and want to spend it with the car, I'll do a hand wash. For some owners, that's unheard-of, I know...

I would have been pissed off too if it was me.
Though I usually spend a lot more time detailing the car, including the wash we are up around 10 hours. My regular wash takes me 20 minutes, that includes bringing out the equipment and packing it away. A well maintained cars takes very little time to clean if it is done frequent enough. Depending on weather I guess I wash mine 1-3 times a week. Many times it's just a snow foam and rinse and that's it. I detailed my 5 in June, hasn't been hand washed since, just foamed and rinsed, and it's still the best looking car in my street. |

After i Opticoated my car, I can wash my car with a 2 gallon bucket of water and ONR in about 10 mins. Nothing sticks to the car and doesn't need anymore than a gentle scrub from a MF cloth with ONR. It shines like it was new

Next time just put the car in the garage and put a car cover on it. Drain the gas and oil and disconnect the battery. That way no one can drive it and the car will stay clean forever under the cover.

I would be upset as well, but not about the car but about the effort and time I just put in all have gone to waste, hopefully that's what you meant.
