Automatic Gearbox won't change down

I now have almost two years and 50.000 km on my 2012 520D with Sports Automatic gearbox.
Sometimes when accelerating hard from 90km/h the gearbox changes down as it should, but it lets the engine go up to redline and it stays there for many seconds. It basically won't change up. I then let go of the accelerator if I am not overtaking and I need the speed.

This has happened many times now.

I had the car serviced a week ago and the shop could not fine anything wrong.

Any ideas?

It's two year warranty is up in middle of december.

Are you still accelerating and it won't up change?

But as you mention "let go of the accelerator...." Just a thought on driving pattern... Is it possible you are lifting off the throttle 'too fast' at speed, and it is holding gears as intended, when this happens?

Disregard if I'm on the wrong track here.

This is from the 6-speed auto data, same applies in my 8-speed if I lift off fast and it anticipates a braking action.

Quote:
The intention to apply the brakes can often be anticipated from the accelerator pedal being rapidly released to the zero position. If such an action is detected, the upshift is suppressed for as long as the accelerator pedal is in the zero position and the vehicle is in overrun mode.

The tranny wants to keep the rpm high for max accelaration, if it up shifts, it will slow down the car.

Thanks for your replies, I am lifting off to save the engine, it stays at max rpm for several seconds. Usually with the 520d the gearbox changes up way before redline even when accelerator is pushed all the way.

Actually, I had a similar problem where my tach would redline, but my engine was quiet. Only saw this happen 2-3 time first couple months when I bought the car, but it did happen.
