Repair Center Mistake - Possible Damage to Car?

Around December of last year, someone hit my car damaging the entire driver side of the car (from the front fender to rear bumper).

So skipping all the details, basically the collision repair center had to replace the rear driver's wheel and apparently they put the wrong size wheel. All of my wheels are 19x8.5 and the one they put was 19x9. They used the old tire from the original 19x8.5 wheel back on the 19x9.

I fond this out 6 months later and after 7k miles because when I was getting a tire rotation, the other side was fine but the guy said they couldn't rotate the driver's side wheel. He said that it can damage the transmission if I didn't find out sooner or later. But it did cause uneven wear on the rear tires. What other damage is possible to the car?

If the rolling diameter of the wheel/tire combination is significantly off it could cause issues to a differential or a transfer case if the vehicle is AWD.

That said, you aren't going to have diddly squat for difference of the same size tires on a 9 instead of an 8.5. So insignificant its a non issue.

I'd definitely go back and raise hell, get the correct wheel though.

You will need a helper for this check. Use chalk or crayon and mark both tire sidewalls at the ground. Also mark the ground with matching lines. Drive the vehicle straight forward until the tire marks again point toward the ground. If the roll distance is the same there will not be a problem with differential wear. The closer they match the better, but tire wear from side to side will affect this.

But having the rims match is the way the repair should have been done.
