So on the black panel display, a very cordial BMW NA rep called me and provided no insight or reason whatsoever. He didn't know that the full black-panel console wasn't being produced and that the analog console was still in production. I suggested that he leave Montvale HQ and walk into a dealership and compare the brochure to the car sitting in the showroom.

Regardless, a small nit -- absolutely love the car and will post some pics when I get back from a current road trip.

550i could be the replacement for my 335i in 2013 when the maint runs out. They should drop into the 30k range by then, unless they toss this engine into an 4dr M3.
Really excited to see what the tuners do with a TTV8.

We are talking about a car that nearly costs as much as a small apartment; BMW - we are not in the computer industry where you need upgrades every 6 months!!!!!!!!!
ufff. Allah. ki raag lag che na? I am too fed up with the german cars making too many changes mid life now. I am with you bhai-jaan.

Questionning the dealer about the black panel, he gave me this answer: extended black panel is just a larger zone down de revs and only with HUD. It is not the black panel of 7 and 5GT.

According to German price list, you can order it separately for 150 EUR, if you order HUD or Innovations package then it's for free.

Does the display extend to the left, below the speedometer?

New HUD at 3:47

Another thing I found interesting was the lack of a full black panel instrument cluster, I guess it will be an option and not standard on the 6 as well.

The original poster listed the things that are changing for 3/11 builds. Is that a complete list, and can anyone post a link to something more official? Really interested in what all is coming in March. I'm about ready to place an order and want to make sure I get all the newest stuff. I'm surprised how little info the dealer seems to have about this...

I would expect to officially hear about these changes within the next month, hopefully by the end of this month. BMW doesn't want us waiting to buy, they want us to buy now - therefore, no news until it lines up closer with ordering lead times.

Tim

EDIT: I should have specified the US Announcement, the European one has been made.

New HUD at 3:47

The new HUD looks far more modern - is it coming to the F10?

This HUD looks just like mine does on my 535i. Same thing. If they come up with some sort of holographic HUD then I'll be impress. So far this one shown is the same we all have already.

I have full color HUD on my 2011 X5 35i SA - Oct 2010 delivery...

I have a full color HUD on my 2011 X5 (Oct 2010 production date) - with the active cruise control on - I see information in: orange (speed), green (speed set point), yellow (lane departure indicator), and red (if I get too close to the car in front)...

I cannot comment on your car as I am not sure which version X5 got.
But current HUD used in F10 does have color, but NOT a full color display.

Current HUD uses a monochrome display, but with color filters at various location to give you an impression of a color display. So a red icon, text or symbol would be displayed in one area - and ONLY in that area; same for yellow, green, orange etc. For example, it would not be able to display a color photo.

New HUD uses a TFT display (not sure part of the screen or TFT for the whole screen), and is able to display all colors - so it can display a 3D picture of the ram or highway exit in full color (as opposed to just a graphics lane symbol in one color for current HUD).

I´ve now looked over the german pricelist for the march update for F11. And as I´ve understod from that only the X-Drive versions come with Start and Stop function. Is this true becouse i don´t understand why they should let the other engines be without the start & stop? As the new A6 got it on all engines, it should be a strange desicion from BMW i think. Anybody who knows anything more about this.

I´s thinking about changing my X5 to a 535d in July so is interesting to know.

Can't be color filters...

I understand what you mean, but I am pretty sure that my HUD does not use a color filter - specifically, the car icon for the active cruise control is normally yellow when ACC is turned on - it flashes red when the car in front gets too close --- it is hard for the HUD display to change from yellow to red in the same location using fixed color filters...

All - see the attached BMW product update from BMW UK which explains the changes. I assume these will apply (with different pricing) to all country models:

Interesting, it says USB audio interface (option 6FL), Telephone USB audio interface (option 6NF) and that stupid snap in adapter are all required. That adds up to a lot of money.

I had assumed 6NR was replacing 6NF, I'm wrong again...
