Steering Wheel Up Grade - Value Option

I am constantly looking to improve the car but keep it as OEM as possible.

The latest modification was the steering wheel.

Replaced the lower parts with the M5 pieces and replaced the paddles to the M versions.

The two plastic parts are BMW Original and the paddles came from China although I swapped the control modules from the old paddles to make sure all of the electronics were original.

Total cost £244

Hope you like it.........

Very nice upgrade.

Liking the paddles.

Was it a wheel off job or can you install with the wheel in situ?

Open the boot and lift the boot floor flap

Unscrew the two bolts that hold it in place and remove the boot floor carpet piece

Undo the negative on the battery and wrap it in a cloth to stop it shorting

Leave the boot open do not close it or you won't get back in!!!

On the steering wheel sides under the wheel there is a hole on each side, push a flat blade screwdriver in the hole and you will feel a metal wire, push it inwards and pull the airbag gently upwards.

Do this on both sides and the airbag will be free.

Carefully undo the electrical connector that's at the 12'o clock position behind the airbag and then it's free

Place the airbag upwards on the floor mat

That's it, airbag removed.

Thanks.
When you reconnect the negative do all the car systems come back again as they were or do you lose codes, settigns etc?
