528xi 450hp?
So I spent 6 months really back and forth debating on whether or not I wanted to sell my car and move to an M4. I finally decided not to! The F10 body, aggressive look, amazing interior, and all around the vehicle itself is just pure.
I was on break during work and came across this: http://esstuning.com/n20-stage-2-performance-package/ I am really taking this into consideration! I am currently running: - JB4 - ER Catless Downpipe - Remus Catback Exhaust - CKS Coilovers - AFE Stage 2 Intake In order to run this set up I would have to get some of the requirements which means I would still need to purchase: - ECS Tuning Intercooler - BMS Turbo WMI Water/Meth/Alky Injection Kit Or I could go with the N20 Pure Turbos Stage 2. Get it dyno'd and go from there! My biggest issue is the 331 Torque engine crack rumor? From my understanding the internals in the N20 start to crack when the car peaks at or goes over 331 TQ. After speaking to someone at Pure Turbos here told me that was 100% a rumor that has not been proven? He went on to say to me he has seen builds on 328xi running pure stage 2 turbos and peak at and over 400 hp/tq. This is a car I strongly convinced myself that I wanted to keep forever! I don't want to do something that would completely destroy the car... What do you guys think? Comments? Questions you guys think I should ask? I trust the community on this forums definitely great people on here! Help me make the worlds fastest 528xi!!! I want to smoke a Lambo by the end of the year!!! |

If you want a ~450hp F10, just trade to a 550. If you want that kind of power in a smaller/lighter BMW, go to the M4. Modifying your car should be a distant 3rd choice IMHO. It'll only help depreciate/devalue the car while making it less reliable.
Smoking the lambo? Start with a lighter car with more stock power and modify from there. F10 won't be the platform given the weight. Slowest modern Lambos (last 10 years or so) are sub-4s 0 - 60 with 500hp - 560hp (Gallardos). Getting the F10 in the same club would probably require well over 600hp - 650hp, especially given the 400lb weight advantage of a Gallardo. Now, smoking one? Now you're talking about Huracan performance... If it's bigger power you seek, I'd just move on from the 528xi. There's only so much you'll do to it, and all the while you'll sink money into it while devaluing it and making it unreliable.

The Lambo thing was a joke, but would be nice to accomplish. I seek power; however, I don't want to get rid of my car! Personally I feel like 450hp is perfect! I really see no reason for more. I'll have a 3917 lb car with 450 horsepower which in my eyes would be perfect! I see it as an extra 100+ horsepower for me and a new driving experience. I do respect what you are saying though! |

Just my two cents; if you're willing to spend money on all those upgrades, just sell this car and get a 550i or a M car. The reason why I suggest is this is because all those mods are just another thing that could go wrong and potentially hurt something else too. Best of luck!

I don't see the sense of spending tons of money trying to make a 528 match the horsepower of a 550 while greatly increasing the chance of grenading the engine in the 528.

As a few others have said, modding the 528 would be 2nd or 3rd choice for me. While I do appreciate you wanting to stick with your car and put the work in, I think in the long run the much smarter choice is to upgrade to a better starting point. To get the gains you want out of a 528 is going to be very costly and could end up jeopardizing the engine along with many other systems. Not to mention if for any reason you do end up wanting out of it, you will be out a lot of money that you will not get back from the sale or a part out. The market is flooded with f10s right now, you could sell your 528 in stock(ish) condition, buy an alpine white 550 on the cheap, transfer the mods you like, and keep that car for many years. Just my opinion, but good luck if you go the other route. Would be interested in following the progress for sure, I'm sure it'd be useful to a lot of 528 owners

Like your car, what front lip is that?
If you love your car, but want more power, I'd have to recommend picking up a 550, and doing some mods to that if you so wish. Practically the same car, and the pricing on used ones are super agressive (I just picked up a gorgeous 2014 with only 33k on the clock for $36k, a little less than $41k OTD 2 days ago.) Almost went for an M5, same year and similar options, but couldn't justify the almost $30k extra for the one I wanted. Also, use the opportunity to try and get something a little more like you want. I was in a time crunch, so I had to pull the trigger early, but I probably would have tried to hold out for an xi, given a little extra time. |
