You need to get the car coded to "enable" the feature. This is assuming you can currently just press the button from the inside driver door to get them to auto fold?

Yep I understand... I was just verify if you could have the car coded to do what you want. Your answer should be YES, you need to find a local coder who will hook up thru your OBD2 port with their laptop and enable that feature for you, but while your at it... you should also ask them what other cool features you can have enabled. This is something the dealership will not do for you, you need to find a "guy" in the forums to do it (try looking around e90post for "onebadmofo" or "cn555ic"). I believe they have the answer for your dilemma

I am simply confused as to why you folks in NA need to code the system when in Europe it is simply down to pressing the lock button in the remote key longer in order to fold the mirrors, and back in position when opening the car.

I am in Manhattan and can help with that and a few other things European cars have enabled but which ours don't, e.g: actual tire pressure and temp on screen or closing all windows/ sunroof from FOB or Comfort Access or closing the (power) trunk from the FOB or trunk button etc.

stupid laws that there isnt a sensor to stop the window from going up all because some kid got his head caught in it.

This all can be coded via 3rd party. being in NYC, there are plenty of coders.

I am a coder! I have done many many cars from these boards.

And the anti-pinch feature for the windows and trunk isn't affected by coding.

Actually, European cars do not have Tire Pressure and Temp displays by default, nor can it be coded on them, as they do not have Option 2VB Tyre pressure control (TPC). TPC, aka TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), aka RDC (Reifen Druck Control) contains actual pressure and temperature sensors. Instead, in Europe they get only FTMS (Flat Tire Monitoring System), aka RPA (Reifen Pannen Anzeige), which has no sensors at all, and operates on tire rotational speed to determine loss of pressure.

It's because OUR GOVERNMENT takes every opportunity to protect us from the harm we would do to ourselves by having fob-activated folding mirrors.

2VB is not standard equipment in Europe, but of course can be ticked when ordering the car as one of several dozens of available options.
Almost nobody is ordering the cheapest base car model - metallic paints are already optional equipment charged extra.

I could have sworn I had seen someone posting a shot of their iDrive with pressure/ temp data from Europe. Either that or I dreamt it.

Very informative though, thank you Shawn.
