actually it doesn't ... look at the 50i in 550i ... it is a tad lower than the initial 5 in the badge ... it appears he removed the last 3 characters and replaced from a 550i badge.

Just from what I've gathered.
This is the remaining 1% of girls.....

I see this sort of thing a lot. Not from younger guys but rather older men for some reason. I see tons of Mercedes guys doing this putting AMG XXX when its clearly just a 350 model or lower. Some guys go all out putting the badge on every panel but leave out the dead giveaway stuff like wheels and exhaust. I mean if you are gong to fake it might as well do a better job at it.

How hideous. Funny thing is no one in their right mind, especially in this day and age of efficiency>power would look "down on" a 528i. But by some foolish effort to lazily re-badge it he/she now invites the notion that it's inferior, not considered worthy by an owner who clearly wishes he/she could afford something else.

People don't even care or think of a 550i as "superior" anyway (if they even know what that is), it isn't like an M5 badge. An F10 is more "judged" by how it's optioned, its packaging, etc.

People are funny.

The only people who care is the "superior" car owner who's only ability to feel superior is driving a 550i, or M5 or whatever.
I removed my badge of shame because I don't want to look like the other 90+% of 523/528s in HK who don't know where the engine is in a car. Also, the badge sucks in dirt.
I wanted to get a quad exhaust for symmetry, but put off the idea because dickheads like you will say I am 'pretending' to be something I am not.
You can tell as much about the person who notices this as the person who does it.
Just as I am sure I will regret posting this.

Uhhh, nobody in their right mind is talking down de-badging a car without intent to "pose" (i.e false re-badging). Putting quad exhausts is a styling mod, nothing to do with posing.

RE-badging a car falsely means you've got problems (along with tacky taste), plain and simple.

That's hysterical!!!! Along the same lines, I saw an SLK 350 the other day with the K removed!!!! Talk about going from a 40k car to a 100k car just by removing a letter lol lol

But what a shame to have to say to a prospect "my personality is parked outside. Would you like to meet it?"
Poor kid.

That would something one could do here in Norway where car taxes kill high performance cars. The base version of 550 i costs $210 000 here . Even 528i is out of reach for most people: $110 000 for the base version .

I was considering a two year old petrol F10 (six cylinder). While 528i is the smallest engine in the US, even a two year old 528i would be a dream here. It would cost me $ 10 000 more ONLY IN TAXES compared to the 523i and that is for a used car (imported from Germany). Therefore, I didn't even consider 528i

You see - Norway with its 5 million people is going to save the climate....

Bizar that this triggers so anxious reactions. That the owner puts a ///M5 Performance badge on a 518d (yes, that exists now also in Europe after the LCI!) doesn't bother me one bit at all.

When he feels more composed by sticking this badge on his car, I would say: by all means! That would be the cheapest mental booster I know ever existed!

I see a lot of negative reactions, like he's "cheating". Well, to those guys, I would recommend to do the same then. BTW: don't ever think that a higher displacement badge on you bimmer is a chicks manget... their ignorant. Better invest in some glossy rims then.

+1 -- saw a red e39 525/528 with an M5 badge in Orlando a few weeks back... looked beat to hell too. heresy I say!

If I wasn't in a hurry I would have tracked it down and ripped that badge off of the car.

Saw something similar in NYC a few days ago. I pulled next to a "535" on the red right. The car had the same exhaust as mine. Was thinking there for a sec that maybe its the 2014 535d, so pulled up closer to check the side mirrors, rolled the window down an looked, younger dude behind the wheel pretended that he did not see me checking his car.

so sad...
