What Dealership will let you come in for free oil changes whenever YOU want?
Unless I have a service notice to change the oil from the car, My dealer would only allow me to book an oil change at 14k or I have to pay for it myself.
I do have the oil changed early (if it's over 7k) and an inspection done before I go on a long trip (@2k or more).

Most will do it at no charge if you're either under warranty or had the oil changed at a BMW dealership.

There is also this: https://bimmerlife.com/2021/08/14/up...moves-forward/

Mine eats 1qt every ~3K. The $7/qt cost is negligible when compared to the headache they want you to go through to get reimbursed. Not to mention, I only use Liqui Moly.

Liqui Moly 5W30 or 10W30 I've been using 10W recently.. I was burning oil like crazy with no leaks.. was told to go up to 10W from 5W and haven't had a problem since.. that was like 2 years ago

i change my oil midway....cheap insurance for me... the car will let you know based on your driving how often it needs to be changed

1 yr / 15k is the average interval (which ever comes first) however, for me the 1 yr interval comes before the 15k interval, so i'm averaging oil changes between 7-8k miles...

I let the dealer use the recommended oil, I have ran liqui moly a few times with good results as well.

Going by the LL01 spec is a very good idea, especially for these turbo engines. The LL01 spec has to be an A3B3 spec oil, so if it doesn't say LL01, then at least look for A3/B3. The weights are the viscosity ratings at cold/hot, not shear rating (HTHS) or sludge, etc. Shear rating is correlated to thicker viscosity at hot temp.

Weights only tell part of the story and a Castrol 0W-30 can have an A3B3 rating, but it is also difficult to find it and it's expensive in North America. It is also less common for a 0W-30 or 5W-30 to be an A3B3, but there are a few (specific Castrol 5W-30 A3/B3 that's LL01, Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-30 - not the "L" version). These two 5W-30s with A3/B3 ratings also are thicker at both 40C and 100C than the other 5W-30s.
Edited: wanted to add that all 0W/5W-40 oils I've seen are A3/B3 oils.

Other German manufacturer approvals are good too and I personally use Liquimoly 0W-40 in my N55, which is a little thicker than Mobil 1 0W-40 according to specs reported, which I wanted due to the way I drive. I also do the guarantee/warranty/return to FCP when I send other parts from vehicles.

BMW changed the oil intervals from the 15k mile interval to a shorter one, which is closer to 10k, especially after having issues with their engines. I personally use 7,500-mile interval. Sure, an oil can last longer, but you have to look at how oil breaks down. The viscosity will be thicker on start-up & thinner when hot, there will be more contaminates floating which can act as abrasives, and the additives will be lower. Plus, look how small the oil filter is.

Here is a compelling reason to get at least an A3B3 oil, if not an oil that is LL01. You can do your own comparison here: https://online.lubrizol.com/relperftool/pc.html

I've decided to give the Synthoil 0w-40 Liquid Moly a try, I live in Northern Nevada, and it gets not only a little cold in this highland desert environment and I live in near the mountains, in a valley and near a basin, currently it will get around mid 50Fs 60Fs (10-15c) on a low at night, and high up to like a few weeks ago around 100-104F (36-40c) normal highs are mid 90s or (30c-36c) during the day. Winters are generally cold never past -15c at night and its usually chilly at -1c up to 5c on a warm winter day. 5w-40 was my next choice however I do like the 0w-40 for a cold day, cold start for protection.

I am considering in trying the LM Engine flush, as far as the ceratec, I am sure it would be useful however I may try it later as this will be my first DIY Oil on my 5er since I got the car in June. (First oil change since I owned it). I want to try out this 0w40 and I will definitely provide everyone with an update on the performance and fuel economy and the general overall "feels". I want to do a video on it as well. I plan to do Engine oil service intervals of 5-6k and the car is currently at 78.6k miles.

Been using LiquiMoly SynthOil 0W40 in my F10 since I bought the car. My mechanic recommended it and since my car has a mild tune, it's perfect for my uses in our horrible Canadian climate. No complaints!

Ditto BMW doubles...Catrol Edge Euro Car is LL01...and I believe it comes in two viscosities...5W30 & 5W40...which you can also get in 5 quart jugs @ Walmart for approx $28 per jug. And up to 10/16/2023...Castrol is running a $20 rebate if you purchase 10 quarts (or two 5 quart jugs).

I created a thread that had the rebate info...here's the link for the rebate form: https://apfco.com/Secured/R12686/

That's interesting your SA didn't suggest the updated interval...BMW changed the interval from 15K to 10K back in 2013. But I firmly believe one should do what's comfortable for them and their car. The best thing to do is obviously get your oil tested...and full synthetic oil (which is recommended) probably has a longer life than "dino" (non synth) oil...which was used back in the day when 3K oil changes was the recommendation.
