URGENT 550i F10 issues, ignition wont start
hey guys i havent had my 550i too long and today i was cruising to town and randomly the car shuts off. wasnt rough, no previous issues at all. it just dies.
pulled over, car will not start. it DOES crank but wont start. it said ignition malfunction but now it does not say it. no codes i have already scanned. my question is, what could cause this? ignition module? fuel pump/module? starter? |

The car shut off while driving? Only a few things would cause this. I.e. Alternator.
Or will it not start after you turned it off? If so, it could be a myriad of things. Starter, fuel pump, seized engine, etc |

Update for you guys, thanks for the reply. I went back a few hours later and it started just fine. I filled it up with premium and go for a drive to maker sure it's good. It sounds like my timing chain is slapping and it didn't happen until this issue.

Dying while driving, but cranks immediately after dying? Sounds like a loss of fuel to me, maybe your High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) is on it's way out.
However, if I'm not mistaken, the warning message with that issue is more commonly "Engine Malfunction - Reduced Power", not an ignition issue message, however I'm sure depending on the actual cause of your issue the sensors could interpret failures differently. I'd get that looked at ASAP, please post your findings.

Under warranty?
Just curious as I'm a 550i owner as well and I'm always nervous when I hear these stories wondering when I'll be posting something like this.

It reaaaaally sounds like rod knock but it doesn't have any codes other than the recent lean code, it drives fine now but just the noise is awful. (No it's not injector tick lol)

I'm back. Dealer and another trusted shop said rod knock.
What to do next? I don't know It still runs perfect no carnage internally just knocks a bit. I can't afford the 8,000 used motor replacement |

Yesterday my car didn’t start last night and after work and in the morning I tired with the key next to the steering column it worked after that my dad helped I think it’s the car battery or the car keys or the ignition or alternator.
