ECU progamming
Hi I had my 530d reprogrammed and they had to take the ecu out and reprogram it directly on the electronic board.
I was wondering if BMW would detect it at next servicing when they plug it in their systems. Thanks for your help |

Yes, in a way... FASTA data will show the tampering, but the dealer rarely looks at it. It is sent to BMWAG and may be examined by a third party, but its unlikely unless they are looking for a reason to decline a warranty.

DME tampering flag has nothing to do with FASTA data.
FASTA data is collected every time a BMW is connected to ISTA-P in the dealer network. I speculate the "pirated" copies of Rheingold ISTA-P are likely transporting this data to BMW if they have an active internet connection. FASTA data can show if the DME has been tuned. Maximum engine RPM, maxvspeed, torque output, boost pressure, other tells.... I suspect all valid critical PID's can be poled for the purpose of warranty evaluation subjectively by BMWAG on a case by case basis. FASTA is like a vehicle black box. I sincerely doubt any tuner can manipulate the collection of FASTA data. Again... this is all passively collected and stored. Unless you have a specific issue or warrantable claim the data collected is not likely to be reviewed. |

I do on my and many other vehicles.
FASTA is just a record of diagnostic and programming measures. If connected to BMW AG, each session is transmitted to them. An offline system just has local copy saved for designated period. The only thing dealership will see is last programmed date and current I-Step of entire vehicle as well as individual modules. |
