Why the difference?

Both these instrument clusters are from a 520D….can you spot the difference?

The redline is different.

My guess is that the bottom one is an LCI with a newer engine. (Also the low mileage indicate that)
I heard the old and new Diesel engine in X5s, and the new one sounds very different, it was about half as noisy as the old one.

So I would guess the bottom one has a newer engine.

No, my 2013 520d has the same redline as the bottom one.

As you can see in the video…this is a 2012 F10 and still has the 2nd instrument cluster.

A guess but maybe a manual and an auto, they may possibly have different maximum revs...

Don't see why though tbh

But the manual one (buttom pic) has the same redline as my auto 520d.

I assume the one in the buttom pic is a manual because of the up and down arrow where the PRND letters are on an auto.

What do you mean by 2nd intrumant cluster?

And be the looks of the iDrive screen, it's a 2013 because it has the NBT iDrive.

From 07/11 they changed it. Usually BMW do minor changes/tweeks every year, but we barely notice.

Also. the 25d(218 hp) unit of the same engine will also have a 5K rpm redline
