Roof Mounted Bike Carriers

Hi All

Has anyone used the BMW roof mounted bike carriers ? .... any thoughts good or bad ? ... Im just comparing the BMW roofbars and bike carriers against the offerings by Thule ... or possibly the BMW bars and Thule carriers.

Thanks

M

I was looking into this also and would like to get some more 411 before I purchase one.

Just in case it helps anyone ..........

Ive just bought the BMW roofbars for my F11 and the BMW cycle carrier(s)

The current version of the cycle carrier (82 71 2 166 924) is actually identical to the Thule 591 ProRide carrier and made by them .... (different to the pic in the accesory brochure) .... only difference is it comes with the BMW fittings so it fits the BMW roof bars nicely.

Slightly more expensive than buying Thule .... I personally prefer the BMW bars because you dont get the slight overhang of the bar that you get with Thule.

Cheers

M

I've got both the Thule bars and bike carrier on my F11, always liked the Thule stuff. I'm fact I prefer the overhang as I also often have a canoe on, which fits fine with the carrier on one side and the boat on the other.

In particular the Thule bike rack is really quick to fit and remove if you're using the Thule bars.

Only problem compared to the Thule bars on my previous A6 Avant is that the BMW bars fix with eight alan bolts, rather than jut a twist of a knob, so I tend to leave the bars and rack on all the time.

There are photos of my setup in another thread on here somewhere...
