M550i Badge

First of all, I'm not one to put a badge on a car that doesn't belong. Having said that, the M550i badge is just too damn cool and got me thinking: well I technically own a 550i with the M Sport package.

So the question is, is it cool to put the M550i emblem on the car, or does it scream poser?

It's your car...why do you care what other people think i have a base 535i without the MSPORT exterior components but i added them anyways. I did it for me...not anyone else!

Like he said, it€s all personal preference.

But if opinions matter, as a fellow 550i owner with m sport, I vote no.

The car is not an M, its just a marketing ploy that BMW does. Even if my car came with that badge, Id remove it.

My reasoning has nothing to do with social status or anything of that nature.

For example, Mercedes doesnt put AMG on non AMG cars. Or if Honda Civics looked EXACTLY like a Lamborghini Huracan and were everywhere, the Lamborghini wouldnt be exquisite. It takes the prestige away from ///M if you ask me.

I'd be more inclined to say yes if there weren't an actual M550i.

It's your car and its M sport.

It makes me little cringe when I see regular F10 with an M5 badge. That gets me boiling.

What I find weird about these things is - someone who knows what an M550 or M5 is, to impress them, would also know that the car isn't what the badge says; and someone unawares of what an M550 or M5 is, won't notice or care about the badge.

I think you are right about everything but the first sentence.
To me it is what the owner likes. In the end it boils down to...
To each his own.

The difference is, the owner clearly knows that his car isn’t a M550. The M550 has an engine partly designed by ///M. Even the M550d has an engine partly designed by ///M.

A 550 with M Sport package is no different from a normal 550 with the exception of cosmetic changes and slight suspension changes.

The badge is just a designator. What matters is what’s under the hood.

This topic has come up many times, yes it’s to each his own, but if you’re adding badges that weren’t there from factory...

I always debadge my cars as I prefer a clean look, regardless of the engine size....

People might think I’m driving around in a modded 520d but I don’t care. So just go with what you want and don’t look for approval from others

Whether people admit it or not there are 2 schools of thoughts. One is, I"m going to debadge the car because it makes it look less cluttered. The other is I'm going to debage the car and add other pieces (bumpers, spoilers, etc.) to make people think I have a more expensive/more powerful car than I actually do because that'll impress them. I imagine most people won't admit to being part of the second group.

My vote = "less cluttered, cleaner look"

Lol. I was on a business trip.

The feedback is consistent with my thoughts on the emblem. The only reason I brought it for debate is because the G30 M550i is very similar in terms of engine and setup.

There you have it - that's why I don't get this.
