Soooo... I just impulse bought some wheels

Cruising on the inter webs today... I found these:

They are the cast ones... which is obviously their opening price point.

I recently have had a rash of wheel drama with Rep 343M, TSW Mugello, and OEM 351. Last week, I bent 2 of the TSWs that I just had refurbished.... Stupid Atlanta construction!

So I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with these? Also, they are 20inch diameter 9 and 10 inches wide.
Dinan is recommending:

265/35ZR20 (front), 285/35ZR20 (rear)

and I already got tires that are the OE 20 inch sizes that are

245/35ZR-20 (front), 285/30ZR-20 (rear)

I think the wheels are 0.5in wider front and rear than OE... I know it will stretch a small bit.

Here is a chart with the variances... I am wondering why Dinan is recommending such a high variance in diameter from OEM?????? Am I crazy to stick to the OE 20inch tire sizing??? I'm not looking to maximize the grip as this is not being tracked.

Dinan size recommendations are likely for tire selection more than anything. The "correct" sizes aren't very diverse, but Michelin AS3's and PSS are available so who cares :-D

BTW everyone.... these wheels are likely on "clearance" for $699.... They are probably trying to push the forged options at $6500!!! which I could understand since their brand is so performance focused. i was quite surprised that they had these wheels. I don't care that they are Dinan... just decent 20" staggered wheels for 700 beans is worth a try for me. I would have to assume that these are better than the chinese replicas...hopefully with better quality control although i'm certain they are made in China at this price point.

I run 245's in the front with 9" wheels, no problem at all. Impulse buys are the best. My wife hates it when I'm slow at work because that's when our account gets hit the hardest.

I picked up cheapo Sumitomo HTZs... really freaking cheap! $680 delivered from tire rack! I'll probably burn thru these in 18 months. For some reason I never looked at outside the traditional brands.... I used to spend $1200 on 18" RE050s on my S8... and still burn through them in 18 months with a winter hiatus!

Never thought I could get into 20s so cheaply.... time will tell if this whole deal is "pay for what you get". There's a saying amongst my friends of "buy once, cry once" for getting the proper kit the first time.

I am eyeing those for the wifes 335i, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Tire selection was a concern, looks like I shouldn't be that concerned with it.
Make sure to post when you get them

I really don't think Dinan would put his name on anything that was of poor quality. I would go for it! As posted above, be sure to post pics!

Not to prematurely excite you all.... but here's a partial lol!

They arrived overnight due to a major DC being in close proximity to Atlanta.

Now my office smells like fresh rubber!

As suspected, made in china. Well I'll give it a try and report back to the group.

Don't take that as a knock on Dinan. These are opening price point wheels. I suspect they got on the China sourcing train for a brief minute and changed directions. Hence why they were liquidating them.

Dinan of today is not Dinan of yesterday. Steve sold the company to Driven Performance (Flowmaster, B&M) in 2013. I think the wheels are a result of new management trying things out. Same with the JB4 style tuner they have now, I don't think these are things Steve would have done..

I am really on the fence about getting a set of these for 335i. I need to go check the rubber and see where they are at, maybe that will push me over if we need tires anyways

Looking forward to seeing them mounted up on the car Kraut.

I heard he bought the company back, I have yet to confirm this. But I did hear that either he bought it back or was raising funding to buy it back

I don't fault the current management group for dabbling in more opening price point offerings. I appreciate benefiting from their mishap!

I believe Driven Performance Brand Group is owned by Private Equity. Certainly this is a classic PE acquisition play. I don't know if Dinan was in bad shape, but taking a well established premium brand and then "selling out" by diluting it a bit to grab a larger market share is an easy business play. PE guys have a short to midterm horizon so diluting the brand while taking in cash and rationalizing any duplicity in overhead is an easy decision. I'm in the PE world and it's pretty much the way for small to midcap companies nowadays. I as an enthusiast will continue to be a snob, much as some chastise BMW for being more main stream, but the big middle is where the cheddar is!

Probably one of the best case studies is North Face.... who actually climbs Everest??? Every suburbanite and their children don Northface for Target runs... he'll I'm one of their poster children!!

Anyways, I'm looking at these wheels in my garage and I'm watching my 4 month daughter napping... wondering if I could swap these bad boys without her waking up in the middle.....nah I'll wait until the morning when everyone is sleeping!

I know he started Steve Dinan Auto Tech.
I guess the Chip Ganassi thing was very short lived...

Had to wait until 8am... even though I started jacking and breaking the bolts before to run my impact wrench! Neighbors are such sissies on social media nowadays.... keyboard tigers if you will.

They did come with 3mm spacers. The instructions were to apply in the front. But since I am running regular width tires, I may take them off. Seems like the front is more flush than rear.

ETA: the spacers are for caliper clearance. I think I need some in the rear
