Vin Issue?

I went to a BMW dealership today to get the service records for the 2011 I just bought last week. I noticed that at the top of the records, it says the car is Carbon Black. I then go look up the VIN on bmwvin dot com, and good gawd it says this: CARBONSCHWARZ METALLIC (416)

The car is most definitely NOT Carbon Black.

Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

[EDIT: mness is 100% right, the car IS Carbon Black! I made what clearly was a bad assumption that Carbon Black was black. I love the color, regardless of what its name is. ha!]

That picture looks like Carbon Black. What color car do you think you have? Carbon Black is bluish purple in sun (think: carbon paper), only looking somewhat black in shade. CARBONSCHWARZ METALLIC is the German for Carbon Black.

LOL, my previous E60 550 was Carbon Black, and I love that color. When I went to buy it the dealer had it listed as Jet Black. I was iffy about a jet black car, but when I saw it gleaming in the sun and it was blue, I knew immediately it was carbon black. Any doubt about buying it went out the window

For sure you have to get rid of it.
I mean, now that you've learned it's not what you thought it was.

That's pretty funny, enjoy your Carbon Black F10, unless you tell us it's jet black next week.

To avoid any further chance of personal confusion, I'm having it painted a color that is unmistakable: Fire Engine Red.

To me it looks (very dark) blue even in photo in your signature

I have seen a carbon black in every BMW showroom. I think it is a beautiful color.
It is great you have a sense of humor about it.

Carbon black

Have a Carbon Black 2014 F10. Last winter I needed to run it thru a carwash
(Wisconsin winters ya'know....). Gent behind me was driving an Audi A6 and doing the same. We chatted a bit about the cars and when we walked down to the other and our cars were parked side-by-side.

He commented " I swear your car was black. But now I see it's actually blue."

Quick-change color.

Thanks Alma, and hellzyeah, that's funny kin! I'm serious, in a million years I would never have said i thought the word 'black' was in the official color of this car. I can easily see how someone, including me, can see how it looks black in certain light or from certain angles, but by and large the mo-fo is blue! Whatever though, I love the color and I don't care what its called! haha!!!!

Negative, if the paint code plate under the hood says "carbon shwartz 416" then carbon black is what you have. You can also check a vin decoder. Either way Carbon Black is a beautiful color. My previous E60 was carbon black, I loved it, very unique.
