Real Time Traffic Info/ BMW Assist
I have a quick question for the wizards here on the forum. I lost my RTTI last month on my 13 550i. I have verified that it is not affected by the 2g combox as BMW Assist told me that mine is part of the updated 3g technology after they checked the VIN. They explained that the reason I lost the traffic info is because the service went from a free to a pay for service after four years. I bought the car used last year.
At the dealership yesterday the Genius there said I was good to go to get it turned back on, I just had to call BMW Assist to get the service in my name and pay the fee for the traffic info. Talking to BMW Assist, after I left the dealership, they explained that the dealership didn't turn the on or reactivate the combox. They also explained that I did not need to return to the dealership and that it could all be done on the phone since they just need to show that it is active in their online system. So after calling the dealership this morning they told me that I need to come back in to check the technology on the car to see if it supports it....after I have been told that it does. I really don't have time to go back to the dealership until mid August at the earliest. So after that long rant, is there anyway to get my combox activated without me having to return to the dealership? Thanks in advance. |

I was in the same boat you're currently in. I had to jump through hoops to get this problem resolved. Like you I have a 2013 5 Series (535i M-Sport, July 2012 Build) with the correct combox (Part # 84109257154). My free RTTI service ended 12/16. First of all, you do not need to go to the dealership. The first thing I did was to login to the MY BMW Connected drive website. https://connecteddrive.bmwusa.com/cd...n?locale=en_US
Login to the website with your login credentials. If you see a picture of your car on the status page you should be ok to sign up for the Safety and Convenience Plans ($398.00 for both), you need both plans in order for RTTI to work. Click on store and purchase both plans. If however, you cannot see a picture of your car after you login to the site (it will be covered in a sheet) you will have to call the BMW customer support line 1-888-333-6118 to see if they can fix your problem. After I did this they couldn't figure out how to fix this problem. It seems that they think any 2013 models don't have the correct combox installed in our vehicles. I had to bump up my request to another level (Supervisor I guess), finally after about a month after my first call to customer support they fixed the problem. The name of the supervisor I dealt with was Cliff in Florida, he knew exactly how to fix the problem. I hope this helps to resolve your problem. Good luck. I'm leaning towards renewing those two options if for only $100. Thanks for posting! |
