F10 xenons
Guys
quick question and hopefully somebody will be able to answer it. Does all F10 comes with xenon? If not how do you distinguish b/w xenon and non xenon cars as all of them have lens. Thanks.

Up until LCI halogen cars also have conventional indicator bulbs and halogen corona rings. Xenon cars have an LED matrix for the indicator and LED corona rings.
After LCI all cars have xenons as standard - basic (non-adaptive) xenons now have incandescent bulbs for the indicators where as you get the LED indicator matrix on adaptive xenon and adaptive LED. Also, if there is the manual range adjustment near the headlamp switch it's obviously halogen. Like the e9x range, F10 halogens are absolute toss.

I think only the adaptive LED headlights get the LED indicator for the LCI, and not adaptive xenon.

Pre LCI F10: Standard equipment headlight were halogens, side lights were LED
(xenons headlights available as option) LCI F10: Standard equipment lights are xenons, side lights are standard bulbs (LED Headlights are available as option) The only way to get LED sidelights now is to have the Adaptive LED headlights. (This includes LED, Adaptive, LED sidelights, Auto High beam assistant) LCI pictures below... XENON (standard equipment) LED headlights (optional)

I am contemplating the idea of buying pre- LCI 520d. I do not think that my budget will allow me to stretch to xenon equipped car. Can we change H8 / leds for corona rings on non-xenon cars? And Looking at the engines, they are N47 engines so are there any concerns re: Timing chain snapping / rattling on 520d. Thanks. Quote:

Can they be changed to white LEDs and if yes are those H8 bulbs? Thanks.

Yes I believe the corona rings on the halogen cars is an H8 bulb. Re the N47, timing problems were ironed out by the time the F10 came along.
Shame you weren't a month earlier - just sold my last F10....

I have pre-lci headlights with the assists, very good lights - Halogen lights are very dim and dangerous IMO.
I do think that LCI xenons are a step-back by including a halogen indicator bulb (wonder why)? PRE-LCI xenon PRE-LCI Halogen |

Probably marketing to distinguish between the top-end LED lights (which are amazing, btw)

Thanks guys. Very helpful.
Also wondering which forum most UK forum members use? I would like to see their classified thread to see common modifications. Are modifications common on 5 series or mostly grown up sensible people buy these cars and keep them stock?

Thanks again guys. F10 fever is getting high.
Another question do all F10 starts keyless. I test drove a car which started without key in the socket. Is that standard? Other thing is that I looked at AT 8 speed gearbox. It has Comfort, normal, sport and sport plus mode. I take it that it is not electronic damper system unless you get comfort plus? Am I correct? Lastly, how does this comfort, normal and sport mode work. Do they really work as I did not feel a lot of difference.

My car (July 2011 build) has Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport+. Comfort at that time indicated an active suspension option. Later models changed to Comfort+, Comfort, Sport and Sport+, but lost the Normal setting. Comfort+ now indicating active suspension, VDC or Adaptive Drive. When you say not a lot of difference, do you mean to the suspension and/or steering, or gearbox and/or throttle, or everything? Remember you can select chassis and/or drivetrain in iDrive, so not necessarily all features will be changing with the modes. My car, there is no doubt I'm changing modes, the three suspension settings are distinctively felt. If I select and check chassis and drivetrain, changing form Normal to Sport changes the car quite dramatically, as suspension, steering, throttle and gearbox instantly change characteristics. What is the difference b/w active suspension option and EDC (electronic damper control)? There are two different cars with literally similar specs but one of them had EDC. Also, I looked in idrive and chassis and driver train was selected. So, I put the gear into sport mode (higher revs) and car into sport mode. I felt minimum difference b.w normal and sport mode. But then I did not push the car / did not drive enough to distinguish. Also, it was 520d and I moved from remapped 330d (290BH/ 600Nm) so perhaps 520d did not give me that torque surge. I am after economy this time so will have to stick with 520d.

I've got an LCI 520D and there is a marked difference between comfort and sport modes. It's no rocket ship but when talking everything into account I'm amazed at the performance and economy for such a big car.
