Both rings on that side? Do you get an error message in iDrive? Are you using DRL? Are you sure it's dead? Sometimes the reflections don't appear from an oblique viewing angle. Tell us more about your bulb changes. What bulbs did you change to?

Yes, both of the ring died on the right side. And there's an error message in iDrive saying "Right-side parking lamp and daytime running lamp malfunction. Have the system checked by the nearest BMW center" I usually leave the DRL on Auto. I just changed my headlight and fog light to 8000K bulbs. I'm not sure what brand is the 8000K bulbs because I took it to a shop to get it done. And now the iDrive just tell me to reset my time and date.....

it shouldnt affect the angel eyes since its running on different wires.
but to be safe i would switch it back to the oem bulbs and go back to the dealership coz who knows what they would blame it for. or u can take it to southbay bmw and make an appointment with Alex who will get you to Qais and he is usually prety good with modded cars. Or Crevier, is pretty cool about modded cars too. Just do not ever go to Shelly or Irvine BMW I heard they are the most anal about modded cars. |

What about McKenna? That's where I got my car from. I think I'm just going to change it back to the OEM bulbs before taking it to the dealer. Do you know what K is the OEM headlights? 4300k?

I had similar problem on my E60 when I changed the fog ONLY from halogen to hid (35w kit with canbus). Not soon after, the hid fog was working fine but it caused the adaptive headlight to malfunction as the dealer explained there was a voltage surge everytime the hid kit started up and the light control module (LCM) detected/recorded the voltage variance over a period of time and eventually resulting the LCM to shut down the adaptive module. The repair bill came to $1500 as it was not under warranty. The shop foreman also explained the lighting wirings & LCM & main computer on the latest BMW are all in some way inter-connected and monitored. Even though you may ask how is this possible ....
I know there are lots of people who had done the hid kit conversion without any problems but in my case, the vendor sold me the hid kit was totally stumped as to why it happened at all, even though he agreed to buy back the hid kit but claimed no responsiblility of my repair bill. That's why I will NEVER get another hid kit again. Especially on my new f10 Last edited by bobblehead; 01-07-2011 at 07:16 AM.. |

Ouch, that sucks guys ..
Have you tried measuring the Amp draw of the HID kits with a multimeter? This could tell you how much power the HID is drawing, at startup and at steady.. If varying current draw is the reason for the HID kit to mess up the other components, you can get an idea how much more power it draws than the stock halogen fog. Im replacing my stock fogs with 60w halogens (those ones stated as 100w+) .. it draws 3.7A compared to the 2.2A of stock 35W ones.. so Im wondering too if this would mess up other things. But its not HID, so doesn't have the higher peaking current draw at startup.. How much current can you draw (+startup peak) before it messes everything up..? |

In my situation, this happened last year ... e60 was sold ... In my view, lesson learned and not interested in finding out the exact power draw compared to stock ... Actually, took the shop foreman over 2 days to run all the necessary prescribed tests ... called BMW head office back/forth for additonal tech support

I was always a bit scared of HID kits, but mainly because of the high voltage warning signs, at 12V I figured i can't kill myself .. at least in any known way |

Sometimes, it's really draw of the luck ! I guess in most cases, hid kits seem to be okay for the majority of the crowd. In my case, my car's computer decided to monitor all the lighting power draw much more intensely.
