2011 F10 and iPhone 4

I have a 2011 550i that does not have the snap-in media adaptor installed. My local dealer will install it, but they're telling me that it's not yet compatible with iPhone 4. I have other older generation Apple products that I assume would work, but obviously I'd like my phone to be the device I use in my car. I'm seeing conflicting information about compatibility of IOS 4 and this accessory. Does anyone have both a 2011 F10 and an iPhone 4? Thanks.

Does this mean that if you ordered the vehicle with Smartphone Integration you still need to order a separate snap in adapter for iPhone 4?

With smartphone integration you need a separate snap in adaptor for any phone, if you want the phone to snap in.

Does anyone have the complete list of available snap-ins? I saw one list but think its old. I am interested in Blackberry 9700 (assume yes?) and Blackberry 9800 (doubt it)

What is the advantage of snap-in versus using smartphone integration/ComBox and the USB cable?

Snap-in provides you with a neat and secure storage in the centre console, plus it would charge your phone with the car is running.

Is the snap-in compatible with the iPhone in any kind of case? I have an iPhone 4 and have it in a fairly slim case. It is designed to accept an Apple cable, but I don't see how it would work in a snap in carrier for the car.

The USB connection without the snap-in adapter is also allegedly charging the iPhones (with 6VC). Is that not true?

Yes, it would. Think of the snap-in as a dock for your car. It is optional; just make it more convenient (using one hand instead of two) and faster to connect/disconnect.

Not sure it would be worth it for me. I plan on permanently sticking an old 60gb ipod in there with usb cable connected.

My iPhone 4 will only be used for calls over BT as it goes everywhere with me. Docking/Undocking plugging/unplugging isnt worth the messing around. I'll just keep it in my pocket

I am going for the iphone4 dock (i doubt it will accept it with a case but mine has a skin so i will be good ) the main reason is that if i am going somewhere its probably for hours in the car so dock it and forget it... i can see the argument about leaving it i your pocket but then its not charging... then cable its charging but not secure... aghhhh it should be free then we would not be having to make these decisions :-)

Yep, that's exactly the same for me.. I can't be bothered to lift up the centre console and connect/disconnect my phone every time I get in or out of the car.
The only problem I have found with the older iPod's is in winter when the temperature inside the car drops... sometimes the iPod literally freezes up and wont start until it has warmed up a bit..

i have the snap in and whenever i do snap my iphone in, i 100% always forget to take it out when i get out of the car!

So annoying that i now use a cable to connect it to the cigarette lighter to charge the iphone and have BT connection.

My F10 is not already equipped with the iPod/USB interface in the center console (SA 6FL). The question of whether that part can be installed at this point -- either in addition to the snap-in adaptor or instead of it -- really seems to be stumping my dealer. Does anyone know if this can be done?
